Translator’s Notes
Highlighted text indicates text where I am not confident in the translation.
[Bracketed text] contains additional words that help to clarify the meaning of the literal translation.
Some chapters begin with an overview of a particular time period, and then it follows with a detailed story of a particular event. These stories were noted in the original text by the ※ character at the beginning of the passage, such as:
※※※※※
I have also included shading to help highlight these stories.
There were no images provided with the text, so I have added images of officials and locations to help give context to the text.
Sources or notes for some of the translations are noted on the left side of the page.
I have tried to stick as close to a literal translation as possible, which sometimes results in awkward English grammar, because I don’t want to lose any of the author’s meaning. However, sometimes the sentences are really long, so I have broken those into shorter sentences.
This autobiography was included in the memorial collection honoring Chen Pan Ling after his death. The book was published in 1970 and can be viewed at familysearch.org/search/catalog/1073345.
