GARDNER STRIKES GOLD

Birmingham City 3-1 West Bromwich Albion

Last night was a special night.

Blues faced Midlands rivals West Brom in an entertaining encounter under the lights at St. Andrew’s.

An early, unexpected goal from the away side. Swift’s strike perhaps caught Ruddy off guard. Nonetheless, perfect start for the Baggies.

Blues were awarded a penalty midway through the first half. Hard to tell from the other end of the ground. Thought it was a goal kick when I saw the ref point to the floor, but the cheers went up and we now had the opportunity to equalise.

Bacuna calmly put us level. Controversial. Does look a slip but take that Watford game for EFL refs.

Surprisingly, Blues then took the lead. A wonderful header from captain, Dion Sanderson, after a perfectly weighted cross from Cody Drameh. Lofted in behind the backline where Dion guided it over Palmer.

Opportunities went begging for the Baggies in the second half. Noticeably Darnell Furlong missed a sitter. He found himself free at the backpost and could only hold his head in his hands as he saw his effort fire wide from six-yards. Big let off.

Hogan and Gardner were late subs and late impact. Hogan battled away to win us a freekick and Gardner was certain about taking it. He went for placement and it paid off. Sealing three points  and sending us fans into pandemonium!

We could’ve even had a fourth, Burke whipped in a fizzer that almost ended in the back of the net from Pipa. Keeper, Alex Palmer, palmed it away keeping the scoreline respectable.

Blues ran the rest of the game out and enjoyed the celebrations.

Up to fifth in the table now. Terrific turnaround both on the night and in the past few weeks. Eustace’s been making the right calls and at the right times. Long may it continue.

International break for a few weeks. Won’t be at Middlesbrough but we’ll be back afterwards for Hull at home.

Keep Right On
