Transition Assessment
In addition to assessing students where they are at in their self-advocacy journey, it's also important to remember that transition assessment is also an ongoing process to assess the student's preferences, interests, needs and strengths. Transition assessment also includes assessing self-advocacy.
Federal law requires a transition assessment to be completed prior to writing the student's measurable postsecondary goals. Wisconsin requires the transition assessment to be completed during the timeframe of the IEP when the student will be turning 14. Don't forget that an informal assessment is just as powerful in connecting and knowing students as a formal assessment.
