High School vs Postsecondary

In order for students to be successful at the postsecondary level, they must first understand that not all educational options are alike, especially the differences between high school supports and postsecondary supports.

The Wisconsin Technical College System works with technical colleges to provide information, professional development, and other resources to support disability service staff in ensuring student accessibility and accommodations in accordance with state and federal law.  Within their webpage they give access to a number of guides to help students, families, and educators to gain a better understanding of the differences of high school and postsecondary education and how to access disability services within the college system.

Think College provides a new resource with everything needed to know about inclusive postsecondary education in an easy to read format, with helpful tips and information.  They also have a section on the differences between high school and postsecondary education.

Keene State College in New Hampshire created a curriculum to help support self-advocacy and the transition to college.  The Self-Advocacy and the Transition to College is an eight lesson curriculum designed to address the specific needs of students with disabilities entering college.

The U.S. Department of Education created an informational pamphlet that explains the rights and responsibilities of students with disabilities who are preparing to attend postsecondary schools.
