Teacher Assessment of Student
A teacher assessment is also an important voice in self-advocacy. Below are a few resources highlighted that can be used for all ages.
The Next Steps to Independence: Skills and Strategies Assessment from Texas Transition can be used by families and teachers so they can collaborate together. It also has areas to access from birth to age 22. The Next Steps checklist lets educators, families, and students monitor continued progress on skills needed for future success. The legend indicates three levels (complete, in progress, and not needed). The reviewer will mark the box indicating the child’s current performance level.
The Zarrow Institute on Transition & Self-Determination has different transition assessments.
Choice Maker Self-Determination Assessment is a curriculum-referenced tool that measures a student's self-determination skills and progress in the Choice Maker Self-Determination Curriculum.
The Zarrow Center also has the American Institutes for Research (AIR) Self-Determination Assessment developed for the student, parent, and educator. It produces the student's level of self-determination, identifies strengths and areas needing improvement, and identifies specific educational goals that can be incorporated into the student's IEP.
The University of Kansas has a Self-Determination Inventory System that has inventories for students, families, and teachers and an adult assessment. They also have a data dashboard to use as a platform for measures related to self-determination.
