Self-Advocacy Assessments

Each students’ needs in self-advocacy will be unique, as identified in their individualized transition plans.  It is important for students to know and understand their disability.  Engaging in their IEP process, including the PTP, will assist students in building their self-determination skills.  Teaching and learning self-advocacy skills requires different supports and tools for each student.  It is important to assess where each student is in building their self-advocacy skills and then generate a plan to provide support and the tools needed to keep them moving forward in self-advocacy.

On the following pages you will find self-advocacy self assessments that can be used to explore where to start as well as to generate conversation and share in a team meeting.
