Some people may have an issue where after installing XWA from the GoG manager, it requires you to insert CD-1 when you try to run the vanilla game - despite the fact you own a digital copy. This seems to be a problem others have reported too. https://www.gog.com/forum/star_wars_xwing_and_tie_fighter_series/game_asks_to_insert_cd_1_when_trying_to_open - In case you do face an issue, we recommend downloading the offline/manual version of the installer from your GoG account and installing via that method instead.
Reminder to DO NOT install TFTC or XWAU to the root folder of your storage drive, always do it in a sub folder. Please also DO NOT install the game to Program Files or other protected system areas. We also VERY STRONGLY recommend you copy your XWA folder out from Steam before installing to another location, to prevent Steam from messing with the files.
Make sure when installing, you install it to a clean and completely empty folder.
If you are having issues with ammo reload or incorrect warhead loadouts, this has now been fixed. - From the game launcher, click 'Tools Menu' then click on 'XWA Hooks Updater' and allow the window to download and extract all the latest hook updates. The main builds via the XWA Installer Manager are now updated to include this fix, so you should only need to do this if you downloaded TFTC v1.4 prior to 03/03/2026 08:00 GMT.
Some items in the main Concourse hangar may flicker. We are aware of the issue but currently don't have a solution for it.
Increasing the in-game brightness will invert your laser colours, this can be fixed by updating your hooks via the Tools Menu as described above.
If you receive a crash with the message "FlightModels/RebHangerMonitor.opt was not found" please refer to the Quick Fixes section to download the fix.
If you have a high refresh rate on your monitor, it can cause severe framerate lag in the hangars. This is due to weird engine behaviour in how it treats the hangar system and so the higher the refresh rate, the more frames are skipped. For this reason, if you are having this issue, we recommend setting your monitor to a refresh rate of 60Hz. You can also try to make sure the setting EnableVSyncInHangar = 1 in the file ddraw.cfg.
Running the game directly through Steam (or Origin) will cause the game to crash when launching. This is because this old janky engine doesn't like the Steam Overlay. Always run the game directly from the launcher file Alliance.exe. You can also create a shortcut to your desktop for it.
The new GPU ddraw is not compatible currently with Intel based GPU chips and will cause a crash when trying to load a mission. You must have an Nvidia or AMD based GPU for it to work. A workaround is to use the older ddraw but you will not get the performance increase which you can download here.
If you are awarded a Secret Order tattoo AND and a Battle medal, there may be some issues with the positioning.
The in-game music can sometimes cut out and stop playing. This can currently only be resolved by restarting your game.
