From December 12 to December 15, 2022, Barilović Elementary School hosted the first of six planned mobilities of the "Think globally, act locally" project during which partner schools in this two-year long cooperation, Städt schools. Gesamtschule Iserlohn from Germany and Akademicki Zespół Placówek Oświatowych Lubawa from Poland, visited us.

On the first day of our first meeting with students and teachers from partnering schools, we got to know each other and presented our schools to one another. Our students prepared a short welcome performance with our traditional dances and songs after which the guests introduced their schools to us through presentations and videos. We continued our interaction over a pleasant conversation and international dishes and desserts tasting.

We spent the second day of the mobility in Zagreb. We started the planned activities with a visit to the department and center of renewable sources and energy efficiency of the Nikola Tesla Technical Museum, in which we found out more about the advantages and disadvantages of renewable energy sources as well as how energy can be used efficiently. In the afternoon, we visited some popular sights in the city center and enjoyed the Advent atmosphere. After dinner, we supported our football players in their World Football Championship quest on the main town square.

We started the third day of hosting the project later in the afternoon with a visit to the freshwater aquarium Aquatika in Karlovac, during which we learned a lot about the species that live in Croatian rivers. We spent the evening, aptly named "Homo climaticum evening", reading and discussing poems and stories from the climate fiction anthology by the same name, on the topic of climate change and its consequences for life in the future. We concluded the planned activities with work on Twinspace and the project website.

The last day of the first mobility of the project was busy, but also festive. We started the day  with three different workshops prepared and held by teachers from all three partner schools. Teacher Anita from Poland prepared an informative text about positive and negative terms that we associate with environmental protection, in which the students’ needed to find explanations for each one of them. In the workshop prepared by the science teacher Amalija from our school, students established the importance of buying local products in order to save on transport and preserve the quality of the products. Teacher Lütfi from Germany prepared an art workshop during which students made bird feeders from juice/milk cartons that would otherwise end up in the trash. Students of the photo group recorded video statements of the participants' impressions of the activities during the first mobility. They had the opportunity to learn from professionals from local television stations who simultaneously interviewed project participants. With the ceremonial certificates awording, the official part of our first mobility project was completed.

We ended our four-day gathering with a joint dinner at the local restaurant.
