Let`s take action
Students at the age of 10-12 years: Build a worm box and pick up information about the process of composting and the life of a earthworm (documentation and presentation by a poster or comic strip).
Students at the age of 13-14 years: Build a bug hotel by using recycling and natural materials. Design a flyer showing an instruction manual to distribute in school for students as well as parents and other teachers.
Students at the age of 15-16 years: Research about the importance of insects and the consequences of their extinction (students should use different ways of presentation like as essay writings, PowerPoint, poster or even video).
All the products of this phase will be either exposed in exhibitions at school, get used in school garden (worm box and bug hotel) and distributed on Instagram.
3. In AZPO we organized a trip for 13-14 th graders to the ecological forest farm to show students how to build a bug hotel. They were able to make them by themselves and take them to our school. They will be hung in diffeterent places at school.
AZPO students also had a lecture about bees' lives , how important they are in natural habitats . As a result of this lecture they prepared the PowerPoint presentations about bees and their ecological importance in the natural environment. They also prepared the escape room and a knowledge test in interactive applications for the students who did not participate in the trip to the ecological farm to share their knowledge with the others from AZPO.
5th June primary school students with their parents went to the local forestry and they prepared hand-made homes for birds. They also had a lecture about fauna and flora of the local forestry. It was a good lesson for students how to protect animals and plants. We built 20 nest boxes and hung them on the trees in the forest.
12th June primary schools students made their own bug hotels . They created them by themselves with help of the local furniture company IKEA . They ran practical workshops how to build such homes. We cooperate with IKEA in the project entitled "IKea and AZPO for the Planet". We want to enhance our students' awareness of the ecological acts and motivate the local community in local actions in eclogocical prevention.

Eighth grade students of Primary school Barilović marked World Environmental Day, which is celebrated every year on June 5, during their English classes. They did "What if Earth was an apple" task in which the apple represented our planet. At the end of the activity they came to the realization of how only very small surface area on Earth is suitable for growing food. They also calculated their ecological footprint to get the information about their individual impact on natural resources. They learned the difference between ecological and carbon footprint and the meaning of the term biocapacity. They concluded that in order to preserve the Earth and live sustainably, it is important that the ecological footprint does not exceed the Earth's biocapacity.
A lot of work has been done in the school garden and greenhouse of district school Belaj by our third graders and their parents and grandparents during May and June. Vegetables and flowers had been planted, raspeberries, currants and flower beds had been weeded out.
AZPO students get to know the vegetation 🌱🌿🌻🌼🥀 that is in our school, we pay attention to wild plants, we create flower meadows for insects 🐝🐜🦋
During drought, we water our area using a retention tank 🌧️💧
However, to take care, you also need to understand what such plants give us, so we write about them, discuss, research 👀🧬🔬
Soon there will be more flower meadows, a place for bio-waste, more houses for insects, planting 💚🌱🌿💚
AZPO students support wild nature 🙂
Ecological workshops on waste segregation 🌱🌿🍅🥗🌱🌿 We care about improving the natural environment using not only theoretical studies, but above all, WE ACT 🐝🐜🦋🥀🌼🐞 And that's how today AZPO students built a place for bio-waste that will perfectly fit into the ecological assumptions of our school, where trees, shrubs, herbariums, flower meadows, insect houses are created. Through environmental activities, we strengthen awareness, activate and mobilize the local community to participate in initiatives solving local environmental problems.
The employees of the Barilović Elementary School had an educational trip to the Papuk Nature and Geopark during which they got to know the remarkable biological and geological diversity and the rich cultural and historical heritage of the magical Papuk.
As part of the 3rd chapter "Let's take Action" we have further expanded our school garden.
Below we have captured the expansion of the school garden for you in photos.
Everything started with the planning of the garden.
Then the first material arrived, for example stones, sand and soil.
We had to dig, move earth away in the wheelbarrows.
Create new plant beds, work out a plan for planting and design the pond.
We met with colleagues, children, parents and residents from the neighborhood both in our Schoolgarden. We met once a week and sometimes on Saturdays.
Meanwhile, we receive great support, from our garden educator "Gartonaut".
Before the summer vacations we finished the whole reconstruction and preparation of the garden. We were able to plant the first seeds, trees, shrubs, fruits and vegetables.
During the big summer vacations many people helped us to take care of the garden and to water and harvest everything. Because in the spirit of sustainability, it is important for us to harvest everything on time.
As part of the school garden, the students learn where the fruits and vegetables come from, what the plants look like, and everything that goes into being able to eat or process these products in the first place.
We made jam together from our own plums and baked cakes.
The other fruit we use to sell as fruit salad in our lunch break for the children for a small price.
From the salads, peppers, tomatoes and herbs we have prepared, for example, vegetarian and vegan wraps for the college.
For our Environment Day, several classes visited our foundation farm in Iserlohn.
Ecological workshops on waste segregation We care about improving the natural environment not only through theoretical studies but, above all, THROUGH ACTION And that's how today, AZPO students built a facility for bio-waste that aligns perfectly with the ecological principles of our school, where trees, shrubs, herbariums, flower meadows, and insect houses are being created. Through environmental activities, we raise awareness, activate, and mobilize the local community to participate in initiatives that address local environmental issues.
The seventh-grade students of Primary school Barilović visited the local beekeeping farm in order to distinguish organic beekeeping from conventional, to learn what affects successful beekeeping and what are the advantages of ecological beekeeping. During their visit they learned more about the anatomical and physiological characteristics of bees, their behavior and the functioning of the bee colony. They found out which jobs bees perform in the hive and outside of it. They identified the most honey-bearing plants in the area and discovered why is locally produced honey best option to consume. Some students demonstrated an enviable knowledge of the activities and tasks required to take care of beehives.
This year, many students and employees of Primary school Barilović supported the Car Free Day initiative, which is celebrated every year on September 22. Despite the unpredictable weather conditions, many came to school on foot or by bicycle. It is important to note that some of our students rode their bikes more than twenty kilometers to get to school and return home. Well done to all!
The 3rd edition of the County Campaign for Planting Honey Trees is kicking off! The Department of Environmental Protection of the County Office in Iława invites AZPO to the 3rd edition of the project titled "Planting honey trees as a way to protect biodiversity in the Iława County." The action starts on Monday, October 2nd, in Iława, in front of the County Office building. Residents of Lubawa and the surrounding areas will have the opportunity to pick up their seedlings.
The goal of the campaign is to contribute to the improvement of biodiversity in the county and to enhance the benefits for bees and other pollinators. Additionally, the educational aspect of the campaign aims to provide residents with basic knowledge about ecosystems and to cultivate ecological awareness. An added attraction will once again be the educational booths of the Landscape Parks of the Iława Lakeland and Dylewska Hills and Magdalena Rudnicka from the "Dzika Iława" Association.
Following the example of last year, residents of the Iława County will have the opportunity to receive seedlings of the most honey-yielding tree species, common maple, and small-leaved linden. This year, we aim to reach residents more effectively with our campaign, which is why from October 2nd to 13th, we will appear in all five cities located within our county.
We have planned to plant 1,500 trees, which will be distributed to residents. Additionally, for the first 100 people who send photos documenting the planting of the received seedlings to the email address: ochrona@powiat-ilawski.pl, as in the previous year, we have prepared special eco-sets: an insect house and 1 kg of wildflower seeds.
AZPO is proud we can take part in such an ecological action !
Today 10th October, we have a representative from the Promyk Energii Educational Foundation as our guest at AZPO, introducing students to information about emissions, preventing smog, and alternative energy source technologies. The main attraction of the workshops is the Mobile Educational Platform for Renewable Energy (Odnawialne Źródła Energii - OZE), which showcases devices for generating electric and thermal energy from the sun, wind, and air. These include a photovoltaic panel, solar collector, wind turbine, and heat pump. During the demonstration, we discuss topics related to environmental protection, ecology, physics, and nature. It's a very interesting ecology lesson
During this year's Erasmus Day celebration on the theme of skills, seventh grade students continued their focus on beneficial insects with a workshop during which they made three hotels for insects that will be placed in our schoolyards.
Younger students made birdhouses from wooden sticks that will be placed on the windowsills of their classrooms so that the birds that live around have a place to hide from the cold and find food during winter.
Erasmus Day at Primary school Barilović
On October 13 2023 Primary School Barilović marked Erasmus days for the first time. We started the day with four workshops associated with skills aquired through Erasmus projects so far. Students participated in language, maths, augumented reality and craft workshops. They prepared a short presentation of the workshops and a video report on their experiences during mobilities for our guests. We ended our day activities with a short panel discussion in which the coordinators, parents and students who participated in the mobilities shared their experiences, impressions and thoughts.
