Priests of Mitra have carried this calendar all over the known world. Most peoples now use some variant of this, usually with local names for years and months.
There are 19 years in the calendar cycle. Years 3, 6, 8, 11, 14, 17 and 19 have thirteen months, the other years have 12 months.
Months begin when a new crescent moon is first sighted low on the western horizon at sunset.
Years begin in spring.
Months alternate between 28 days and 29 days.
Because the start of the month is defined by the moon, the full moon is always on the same day of the month - the 13th.
The most common names of the months are Sparrow, Hawk, Ram, Griffin, Fire, Gold, Maiden, Scorpion, Bear, Snow Ape, Salmon, Rat, and Dragon (the intercal month).
Each month has four weeks, three of 7 days and one of 8 or 9 days. The last day of the week is a holy day, when business activities are prohibited from dawn to dusk (dawn to midday in some lands). During this time, no trading or selling is to take place. Devout worshippers are expected to spend some of this time in worship and service.
The last holy day of each month is a rest day, where almost all workers have a break from their labours.
The years are numbered from the death of Epeus, considered the first King of Aquilonia.
Conan took the throne of Aquilonia in 898 MY.
This game starts in 899 MY.
