Cimmeria, separated from Nordheim in its north by a ridge of mountains, is home to the Cimmerians, the staunchest allies of the Æsir. A wiser people would have left this place long ago, settling in more hospitable lands, but for reasons all their own, Cimmerians hold fast this land with a tenacity like none other.

There are four distinct strains of the Cimmerian folk, each descended from an ancient Atlantean bloodline or emerging in the centuries following. These tribes are the Ciannechta, Dal Cais, Erianne, and Fianna. Though to outsiders these tribes seem roughly equivalent, each has its own dialect and minor cultural differences.
Cimmerians are fearful and superstitious of the spirit world, distrusting all magic and even their own gods.
No Cimmerian prays to their gods, merely paying them small tokens of respect. They do not have temples or festivals. They avoid contact with the gods much as a traveller avoids contact with a bear in the woods.
The chief deity of the Cimmerian gods is Crom.
Crom looms large in the hearts of his people, for his stern and savage presence goads them to reckless courage and fearlessness in action. A Cimmerian who shows cowardice risks the displeasure of Crom (Conan the Barbarian ch.5, p.66).
