Pay attention, look for story crumbs, follow them. The game will be really boring if you don’t.
The fun of all of us at the table is the responsibility of all of us at the table.
If you make the game unpleasant for anyone at the table (which includes me) then you are not welcome.
As an aside, remember that PVP is allowed but requires the prior permission of everyone at the table.

Your character is not just a wargaming token with some combat stats. They have a motivation, a personality, some traits, and some flaws. In other words, they are a person.

Tell us what your character is trying to achieve (their goal) and how they are going about it (their approach). Make sure you include what tools, consumables, information, and other resources that they are using.
From there we will determine their success or failure (outcome) and how the world changes in response (consequences). This determination may or may not involve dice.
“I want to kill the ogre by stabbing him with my longsword.”
“I want to open the chest by breaking the lock with that iron prybar.”
“I want to scare the guard away by threatening him; we outnumber him four to one.”
If all you say is “I check the chest for traps” then you are not allowed to complain “But I didn’t say I was touching it” when your character gets hit by a poisoned needle.
Know your character’s stats, especially Talents. Write them down on the character sheet. There is no excuse for having to look them up in the rulebook over and over again.
In particular:
Know how to roll skill tests (2d20).
Know how Momentum is gained and spent.
Know how to roll damage (Combat Dice AKA Phoenix Dice).
Know how Fortune is gained and spent.
