What is Tajweed?
Tajweed is the set of rules that help us read the Quran correctly and beautifully. It is like learning the proper way to pronounce every word so that we don’t make mistakes. So others can understand what it actaully sounds like when you are pronouncing the arabic letters by using Tajweed.
What happens if you don't say it correctly?
If you don't say it correctly then it might mean something different. For example if you used google translate and you translated Arabic into English by saying it in Arabic without using Tajweed, then it will mean something different since you are not pronouncing it in the exact way that Allah is expecting you do do.
Tajweed rules:
Ghunna - The noon (ن) and meem (م) have a special nasal sound when they have shaddah (a doubling of the letter) or tanween (ً ٍ ٌ).
Ikhfa - When noon saakinah or tanween is followed by one of the specific 15 Ikhfa’ letters (like ج, ش, ص), the noon is pronounced with a hidden sound (i.e., it's not fully pronounced).
Qalqalah - When certain letters (ق, ط, ب, ج, د) have a sukoon (no vowel), they produce an "echo" sound. This is known as Qalqalah.
Idghaam - When certain letters (like ر and ل) are followed by noon saakinah (noon with a sukoon) or tanween, the noon is merged with the next letter
Iqlab - When ب follows noon saakinah or tanween, the noon changes to a meem sound and is pronounced nasally.
وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا ٱلْقُرْءَانَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍۢ ٤٠
And We have certainly made the Quran easy to remember. So is there anyone who will be mindful? Holy Quran 54:40
أَوْ زِدْ عَلَيْهِ وَرَتِّلِ ٱلْقُرْءَانَ تَرْتِيلًا ٤
Or a little more and recite the Quran ˹properly˺ in a measured way. Holy Quran 73:4
