What is shirk?
Shirk means giving Allah’s power to someone or something else, or worshipping anything other than Allah. This is the worst sin in Islam because it goes against the belief that Allah is the only true God.
Why is shirk so serious?
Shirk is the biggest sin because it denies that Allah is the only one with power. If someone does shirk and doesn’t repent they can’t go to Heaven. Other sins can be forgiven if a person asks Allah for forgiveness.

Major Shirk - This is when you worship someone or something other than Allah, like praying to idols or asking someone else to do what only Allah can do.
EXAMPLE: Praying to statues or asking a saint to help you.
Minor Shirk -This is when you do good things, like praying, but you do them to show off or make people praise you, not just for Allah.
EXAMPLE: Praying to impress others.

Always pray and ask help only from Allah.
Don’t believe in superstitions or worship anything other than Allah.
إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يَغْفِرُ أَن يُشْرَكَ بِهِۦ وَيَغْفِرُ مَا دُونَ ذَٰلِكَ لِمَن يَشَآءُ ۚ وَمَن يُشْرِكْ بِٱللَّهِ فَقَدِ ٱفْتَرَىٰٓ إِثْمًا عَظِيمًا ٤٨
Indeed, Allah does not forgive associating others with Him ˹in worship˺,1 but forgives anything else of whoever He wills. And whoever associates others with Allah has indeed committed a grave sin. Holy Quran 4:48
وَإِذْ قَالَ لُقْمَـٰنُ لِٱبْنِهِۦ وَهُوَ يَعِظُهُۥ يَـٰبُنَىَّ لَا تُشْرِكْ بِٱللَّهِ ۖ إِنَّ ٱلشِّرْكَ لَظُلْمٌ عَظِيمٌۭ ١٣
And ˹remember˺ when Luqmân said to his son, while advising him, “O my dear son! Never associate ˹anything˺ with Allah ˹in worship˺, for associating ˹others with Him˺ is truly the worst of all wrongs.” Holy Quran 31:13
