-- Afterword: Alien Edition --
Well, it is the end of a long project, and I am here to say that despite a couple of bumps in the long road, we finally made it to the end. This project has been in the making for exactly a year, and I would like to express some of my thoughts on some of the articles, especially the later ones, as that is when we were making sort of a final push to get this project over with instead of leaving people hanging and wondering "Where the hell did those two go?" or "This is such a cool idea for a website, why did it get left behind?" In terms of my final thoughts on this site, I personally enjoyed the longer articles, reading them and seeing a couple of throwbacks to previous articles and references to little jokes, such as German Rocky, which showed up more often toward the very end.
The article "David Joins the Show" was pretty much an article where I rant about a single character and personally, I felt that it was for the best that the article was given to me, as I really hated him so much for being a waste of a slot, even though it was towards the very end of BFDI, instead of someone more interesting like Bomby or even Ruby, both of which would later appear in BFDIA. God I hated David so much. Other favorite articles included "The Massive Fuck Up that was BFDIA 1", which pretty much dissected some of the issues in that episode, which felt like a kick in the balls considering that BFDI ended in a bittersweet way and we didn't know why BFDIA 1 started out the way it did. It wouldn't have been until 8 years later that there was a retcon that would bridge the gap between BFDI 25 and BFDIA 1, which while watching those 2 episodes along with the episode that revealed the retcon, still felt like an ass pull when it implies that Golf Ball and the others were close to where Firey and Leafy crash landed. Another article that I liked reading and editing were the various Pencil articles, especially with a very dynamic character as the main focus, it was bound to be filled with funny, interesting, or otherwise defining moments in her career. These articles were very long, especially more so towards the end where we started writing three of them in a row, which I think proves just how much character Pencil had in the first two (three counting IDFB) seasons, and that was before addressing how I saw Pencil when I first started watching BFB, which was pretty much how I got started on BFDI as a whole. I said this before and I'll say it again; She was such an abusive asshole and by watching the first three seasons and seeing an entirely different character, it became clear that the Huang twins were just wanting to get rid of her, but did it in the shittiest way possible. During the run of the fourth season, BFB, it was alright while the show was still going on. After the show ended, the 5th season (TPOT) is pretty much in limbo, and while writing the final few, longer articles of this site, I don't think I'll ever see BFB in the same light again, and this is coming from someone who pretty much got started with BFB.
On one final note, it is going to probably be difficult to say this, but I am considering leaving the BFDI, and ultimately the larger object show fandom. It has been a good four years of me being in it, even though I had my doubts about it in 2021, as BFB was evidently coming to a close and while there was a 5th Season in the form of TPOT that would have been scheduled to update every 4 to 5 months, there hasn't been anything about it recently, as far as my knowledge goes. I feel like the creators of BFDI and the producers of TPOT are getting tired, and with little in the way of updates, I just wish they were honest, either saying that they barely had any ideas at the moment, abandoning the project, or even go with the original idea before the split altogether, that being killing off the characters, despite it definitely being the one that would cause the most immediate backlash at the moment. As the fandom is now, its pretty much filled with children demanding updates and new episodes at a breakneck pace and top-notch writing at the same time. As for a sixth season that people have been wanting for a good while, mainly the desire for episodes coming out at a faster pace, I would be wary of that as it could lead to episodes that feel like filler or uninspired compared to the earlier seasons and episodes, and then there is the issue with Season 5, TPOT, being put on hiatus and I already voiced my concern about it being in hiatus as there has only been one episode of it as of October 2021.
While there were other object shows that have appeared in more recent years, the vast majority have either been put on hiatus or cancelled. Very few shows have had a decent amount of episodes (around 6-8), let alone being completed. And then there's the BFDI and greater object show fandom itself, as it has been flooded with so many people over the past four years, and what used to be a small but dedicated fandom has turned into something much more chaotic and toxic, despite the drastic increase in the number of people being in the fandom. There are still older members in the object show fandom, they're mainly overshadowed by the newer ones, as the older shows are barely discussed. On top of that, the fandom's popularity and activity is effectively reliant on BFDI so much to the point that when BFDI stops, not counting the 1M Subscriber Video and a video discussing an award which I barely give a crap about, as is the case after April 2021, the whole fandom is effectively in stasis. In Remy's words, "BFDI is the lifeblood of the entire object show fandom, cut off it's supply, and the object show community decays."
Rant Over. This is Alien signing out, have a good night.
