How might I use deeper learning elements to attend to social-emotional during instructional sequences?


  • Use the Complex Communication learning progression to select learning targets related to how we process information, elicit participation, engage in the exchange of information, etc.; have students choose targets and talk about “what done looks like” each week; use reflection to monitor progress


  • Use the Collaboration learning progression to set individual and group goals about supporting others through learning and life


  • Use the Flexibility & Adaptability progression to focus on what we can and cannot control via discussion prompts, reflection activities, etc.


  • Lean into UDL-Aligned Strategies to engage students and to allow for multiple means of representation and expression
