Secretary General Speech
(Opening Ceremony)
A tradition where we amplify the voices of the voiceless, engage in discussions to safeguard our interests, and unite to sculpt a better world. This is what TES MUN stands for.
A warm and pleasant good morning to the Honorable Chairperson of The Excelsior School and Guardian of the school family Madam Sheetal Rana, Honorable Administrative In Charge Niraj Bikram Rana, Respected Principal Mr. Prashanta Rajak, In-charges, Supervisors, respected teachers, my fellow team members in the dais panel, delegates, members from press and IT committee, members from the Logistic team and all invitees here!
I, Tejaswi Pant extend a warm welcome to each and every one of you, who represent a rich tapestry of experiences. The spirited delegates who are eager to take the stage, teachers awaiting the next significant moment, and everyone embodying the spirit of TES MUN. Here I stand, your Secretary General, addressing this beautiful gathering.
Model United Nations (MUN) is like a journey, but it's different for everyone. It's like when you and your friends take a trip, and each person's experience is unique. Thinking about the base of MUN, it takes us to the birth of philosophy, which is all about talking and thinking deeply.
In history, there were smart people like Socrates in the West who didn't write down their ideas but talked about them with students like Plato, who became a famous philosopher. In the East, there was Confucius, a wise Chinese thinker who influenced many leaders. They all agreed that having good ideas means having important discussions and debates, even if they sometimes lead to arguments.
Now, let's fast forward to more recent times. After World War II, the United Nations aimed to achieve world peace through cooperation, and this concept found echoes in programs like the Model League of Nations at Oxford University and other colleges. However, it was only after the actual United Nations came into being that the significance of creating a model for young minds to engage, debate, and tackle pressing issues became evident. This model opened the doors for discussions and solutions that might have otherwise remained unexplored. It gave young people a chance to talk about and solve big problems.
For over a decade, The Excelsior School has organized TES MUN, embracing the core values of respect, coordination, and cooperation. Every year, we celebrate this tradition to be the voice of the voiceless, we celebrate this tradition to explore solutions for a brighter world and we celebrate this tradition to create unity and hope.
As our Earth cries out beneath the weight of pollution, when will we hear the desperate appeal for cleaner skies and purer waters? In a world where human rights often remain tricky to grasp, when will the chains of unfairness break down? Terrorism's dark shadow continues to loom, demanding a stand against fear. And with the ups and downs of economics, will we find a path that leads to prosperity and equality for all? This year in TES MUN, we discuss to answer these questions. We discuss agendas such as Curbing Trade Deficit: Challenges and Opportunities,Agricultural Development: Foundation for Sustainable and Independent Economy),Renewable Energy: Foundation of Nepali Economy in the National committees. Talking about the International committees, in DISEC, we discuss about tackling the escalation of terrorism, Genocide, and Ethnic Cleansing Brought on by Illicit Weapons Trade. "Labour Rights as Human Rights" Addressing Forced Labour: Combating Modern Day Slavery, in HRC. Increasing Carbon Emissions Causing the Depletion of the Ozone Layer in UNEP and finally in ECOSOC, we discuss on the question: Is De-Dollarization Necessary for World Trade? These topics are no mere abstractions; they profoundly impact lives, including those of your fellow delegates. In TES MUN, we cherish diversity of thought, the unwavering faith, and the unity of purpose: all for the greater good.
No matter what, none of you will fail in TES MUN. You know why? Because here, we don’t win by letting others down. We win when we rise together, we win when we are able to coordinate and we win when we realize that peace comes from coordination, not from wars and conflicts.
Delegates, you are the voice for the countless lives caught in the Russian-Ukraine war, for the suppressed in civil- wars, for those grappling with food crises in Africa, for families torn apart by climate disasters, and, above all, for your own selves. The transformation of humanity starts with each one of you.
In this voyage, you are the navigator, the one who steers the course. The power to choose, to decide, resides in you. This journey isn't about eliminating fear; it's about acknowledging it and rising above. Let us embrace the spirit of MUN, where ideas clash, discussions flourish, and solutions emerge. Together, we can shape a world that beckons for unity, peace, and prosperity.
Always remember: The placard you hold is your magic wand. The more you wield it, the more magic it will conjure. Believe in yourself, confront your fears, and raise that placard high—delegates, you can, and you will.
Thank you!
Principal's Speech
(Opening Ceremony)
Thank you! Thank you, Salina and Doma!
Good morning! Chairperson of the programme and Secretary General of TES MUN 2080 Ms. Tejaswi Pant.
Honourable Managing Director and the Chief Guest of the programme Mr. Ram Basnet.
Honourable Chairperson and the Special Guest of the programme Madam Sheetal Rana
Respected Administrative Incharge Mr. Niraj Bikram Rana, my colleagues and dear students
It’s a pleasure to address you today. I am really happy to see you dressed and decked in your smart attire ready to kickstart the debate that will shape you as a person.
Today we are starting TES MUN 2080. Coming to every new year we are setting new horizons, creating new boundaries, and exploring new possibilities.
Dear all, life is all games of possibilities. From among the possibilities, you have the power to decide and make the possibilities a reality. No possibilities come to reality unless you take your steps. I am delighted to see you here today that you have mustered the courage to take up the challenge.
Now we are eagerly waiting to see the qualitative discussions among the students and realistic solutions to the problems being discussed.
By the time we come out of the chambers, we will have realized our own values. Valuing oneself is very important. Now let me tell you a story.
A group of people were sitting in a coffee house, discussing life. As they talked, the conversation turned to the subject of life being like a cup of coffee.
One person said, “Life is like a cup of coffee. It all depends on how you make it.”
Another person said, “Yes, but you can’t control the water temperature, or the quality of the coffee beans.”
A third person added, “But you can control the amount of coffee and the strength of the brew.”
Then an older man, who had been listening quietly to the conversation, spoke up. He said, “Life is not like a cup of coffee, it’s the coffee cup that matters.
The cup is what holds the coffee and shapes its experience. And just like the cup, we need to focus on what’s around us, on what we have, and appreciate it.”
The group fell silent, pondering the old man’s words. The lesson of the story is that, like a cup of coffee, life is what we make of it.
We can choose to focus on what we have and appreciate it, or we can focus on what we lack and be discontent.
Ultimately, the cup that holds our life experiences is what matters, not the coffee inside.
therefore, you are the cup. What shapes your coffee is your cup. Your coffee is your experience. Thus, you have the power to shape your coffee. Do it. Make it and rejoice it!
Dear all, you can make this session a beginning point of shaping your experience differently. From here, we expect you to acquire life skills like public speaking, diplomacy, and research. They will also be very important skills for your academic as well as professional life. I wish you all the best. Thank you!
IT Head's Speech
(Closing Ceremony)
Thank you Prajita and Yashaswi.
Good afternoon, chairperson and Secretary General of this closing ceremony Ms. Tejaswi Pant, our Chief Guest and Chairperson of the school Madam Sheetal Rana, respected Principal Prashant Rajak, respected Administrative Incharge Mr. Niraj Bikram Rana, respected MUN Coordinator Mr. Govinda Gautam, incharges, supervisors, teachers, members of the dais panel, delegates, and fellow members of the Logistics,Press and IT teams.
As we gather here today, we mark the culmination of an incredible journey at TESMUN 2023. It has been an honour and a privilege to serve as the IT head, working alongside a dedicated team to create and maintain the digital heart of this program. Over the past few days, we have witnessed the incredible dedication and enthusiasm of all the delegates. We discussed, debated, and deliberated on pressing global issues, learning about diplomacy, negotiation, and the complexities of international relations.
Let me take a moment to share my experience as the IT head. There is always a benchmark that our seniors set. It was our goal to fulfil it and strive to exceed expectations. From the very beginning, our team had to overcome challenges that were both demanding and interesting. We lacked coordination, a workflow, sense of what needed to be done, job description and teamwork.
I want to share a short story regarding the same. Once,in the heart of a bustling city, a diverse group of individuals came together, each with their own unique skills and backgrounds. At first, they were strangers, but as they faced challenges together, they formed an unbreakable bond. Through collaboration and determination, they transformed an abandoned lot into a vibrant community garden, teaching everyone the power of teamwork. Their garden not only bloomed with beautiful flowers but also with the fruits of their unity. This unity of the IT team, press team, and logistics team gave a sign of hope that we could succeed. They are the ones who work behind the scenes to make MUN great.
Now, before we bid farewell to TESMUN 2023, let's take a moment to relive the engaging debates and discussions that have taken place over these two days through a video.
Next on the agenda is the website for TESMUN 2023. It served as a base for the press team to work and showcased different aspects of TESMUN. This website was the hub that the press and IT teams worked on over the different sessions of MUN.
Let’s see a one word video made by the IT team in which dias, teacher describes MUN in one word.
Now, as the final session draws to a close, I want to express my gratitude to our entire IT team for their dedication and hard work. They have worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make this program a success, and I couldn't be prouder of their efforts. I also want to extend my thanks to all the delegates, teachers, and school administration who made this program possible.
Thank you all for being a part of this remarkable journey, and I look forward to seeing the incredible achievements that each one of you will make in the future. As we close this chapter, let us carry the spirit of diplomacy and collaboration with us, knowing that together, we can indeed make the world a better place.
Thank you, and congratulations to all on a successful MUN program!
LP-1 Chair's Speech
(Closing Ceremony)
The honorable chair of this program, the secretary general of TESMUN, my fellow dais and to all of my fellow colleagues as well as the delegates present here you have me Peter Rajiv Kandel’s warmest welcome. I hope you all have had a wonderful day.
Though countless emotions are flashing through my head today at the moment as I have the podium all to myself so as to express my experiences and opinions on Model UN I can't think of any other words than "Thank You".
I thank the executive committee for organizing the event, all the teachers and grade 10 students for
coordinating this event and all the delegates for your active participation in the program putting a smile on my face every time I see your tries to make the event a successful one.
Before becoming the chair for the Legislative Parliament 1 I didn't have the slightest idea on what it meant to witness the ones you teach try their best. How it makes you feel when your delegates try their best to achieve a successful outcome for themselves, how it feels to work for others for their accomplishment and not just your own. All of this makes me realize just how important the way one's teaching affects the ones being taught.
Every time, I witness the delegates try their best to address their opposition by making themselves heard, it makes me feel proud at the fact of being their chair and also makes me a little nostalgic. I remember each and every time about how I was as a delegate myself having myself in the corner in my mind struggling to put out the best in me, sometimes accomplishing what I want and other times not accomplishing the same. It makes me remember the way I was competing with my fellow delegates and how addressing them in manners and also arguing with my lungs out when I was capable of.
It all makes me nostalgic towards the way that I was capable of achieving this position. Looking at you delegates speaking your hearts out was probably one of the most memorable events of my life that I will probably never forget in my life. Though there were an outnumbering number of positives I also had to experience slight negatives. How it feels when the delegates do not understand, the frustrations of the delegates gossiping and the horrifying feeling when you feel that the delegates are not active in the committee. Though, this is a sad feeling, I am thankful for those experiences too. It makes me realize how hard being a teacher really is and makes me appreciate the efforts they put forward.
Though, the time I have spent with the delegates makes me reluctant to send them forwards towards other roles in the future hesitating on the part if they will be handled correctly by others but I realize that it is imperative for me to send them forwards so as to make them capable for a wider spectrum of events which I too want to witness.
At the end, I would like to exit this podium by thanking the school and all for giving me the chance to be here to experience what being a chair really is like.
Now, for the moment you have all been waiting. Without further ado I would like to invite my vice-chair and moderator to the podium to announce the awardees. Thank You and take it away.
