The formal session of the UNEP committee started on August 23 with the motion raised by delegates from France being passed.
"The USA is also continuing to acknowledge the environmental effects of nuclear testing", the delegate of the USA replied to the question of the delegate of Russia during the question and answer session in GSL.
The delegate from the USA was the first to speak in the GSL session. The delegate stated facts and measures regarding nuclear waste management, answering the questions put on the table by delegates from different countries.
"How does the delegate's country plan on helping other countries reduce the effects of nuclear waste", the delegate of Pakistan questioned Germany on why the delegate's country conducted nuclear testing in sensitive areas.
The delegate of Germany replied to all the questions put on the floor by the delegates of Pakistan and Afghanistan.
"The delegate’s country has been ensuring safer use of nuclear energy", the delegate of Afghanistan claimed. "The delegate’s country has also established radiotherapy centers to cure diseases."
The delegate of Russia questioned the delegate of Afghanistan, demanding to know why all the rules and regulations were made when Afghanistan is a country with no nuclear power itself.
"How does the delegate country plan on managing public health in case a mishap occurs", the delegate of Japan asked Malaysia.
The delegate of Pakistan teamed up with the delegate of Malaysia, defending the delegate and replying to the questions, stating the activities that Malaysia has been involved in.
"How can the delegate of China ensure proper disposal of nuclear energy waste when the data proves otherwise?", The delegate of Afghanistan put a question to the delegate of China on the floor.
Questions were also added by delegates from Iraq, Mexico, and Malaysia. Defending the delegate of China, the delegate of Russia, the USA, and Pakistan spoke.
“It has been proven that nuclear waste obtained from missile testing is being turned into glass which is helping to conserve the environment”, replied the delegate of China answering to Afghanistan.
The moderated caucus session was started following the end of GSL. The delegate of Afghanistan raised a motion to start a moderated caucus on the topic Nuclear Weapons and Powerplant has severe effects on the environment.
“Why has India conducted missile testing over the vulnerable Indian seas knowing that it poses a threat to the marine ecosystems.”, The delegate of Pakistan questioned the delegate of India.
Delegates of Afghanistan accused western countries including Pakistan of improper handling of nuclear power. Delegate of Russia teamed up with delegates of the USA and UK defending the accusation.
“A jobless man should never advise a man with a job”, the delegate of Russia aggressively told the delegate of Afghanistan stating that Afghanistan, a country with no experience of handling nuclear energy, should not question the delegates of countries with the experience to do so.
With the encouragement of the dias panel the delegates stated points and argued through the GSL and moderated caucus session to combat the environmental effects of nuclear and missile testing.
