China and Russia were accused of human trafficking by sending China's goal prisoners to fight in the Russia-Ukraine war as soldiers. In the face of such an accusation, the delegates of China and Russia fought with the other opposing delegates at the Human Rights Council (HRC).
"The prisoners had been sentenced to death. So, whether they had been taken to the war or not, their ending would have been the same. "The delegate of Russia commented when asked about the deal.
The people who were sent from the goal had all committed grave crimes that caused them to be sentenced to death. The deal provided them the opportunity to die either in a war or by execution, the delegate explained.
"Prisoners or not, human rights are equal for all, and Russia has denied them their rights by this act." The delegate of Palestine retorted to the delegate of China after the delegates said that it wasn't a violation as they were prisoners.
The delegate explained that by doing such a deal, the two countries were violating the law by treating human life as a product of purchase. As the prisoners died in a foreign land fighting a war that was not even theirs.
"What will happen to the prisoners after the war ends? What does the country plan to do? " The delegate of the United States questioned the delegate of Russia.
The delegate demanded to know how the country's government would honor the prisoners who participated in the war. The delegate of China remained silent while the delegate of Russia replied that the government would lift the death penalty on the prisoners who survived after the war and instead give them life sentences. Both delegates did not comment on how the country would honor the dead soldiers.
The session ended with the majority of the present delegates in the community agreeing with the motion for a peaceful resolution.
MUN and You
-Prapti Adhikari, Prapti Paudel
The sole idea of being “perfect”, being like everyone else, often drowns oneself in the abyss of being afraid to speak their minds and expressing themselves as they are. MUN makes oneself intellectual.
MUN is something that expects us to be ubiquitous. MUN teaches us about propriety. Occasionally when someone thinks of MUN they think of debate whereas there is so much more to MUN than just that, MUN gives us the opportunity to excel in different aspects, that’s totally why there are different committees. A platform for us, who were born to lead, to debate, to write reports, to publish, to create art. MUN supports all sorts of creative people. The angst of trying something new and failing at it is always there but while we are learning and engaging in what we are best at, the talent flows itself. It makes us a knowledgeable person, someone who can do something so good, like none other can.
MUN is an epitome to be better than what we were yesterday, To be given positions where we can bring out the best in ourselves. MUN is not just about grasping knowledge but finding what we are best at. MUN is about finding the best in you.
