Skalick (SKAY-lik) is the Northernmost nation in Mudar.
The Northern portions of Skalick are colder than other land masses found within Mudar of similar elevation. There are some theories about why this might be. The predominate theory is that <INSERT FROST DRAGON HERE> keeps a nest somewhere nearby.
Empress Nikole Ishmerac’s became “Zashchitnik iz Gnezdo” (Protector of the Nest) when her father recently passed. While technically she is the ruler, she is only four. Her advisors run the kingdom until she is ready for her trials.
Moroz (MOOR-oez) is the capital of Skalick
Humans (25%), Tieflings (20%), Elves (10%), Dragonborn (10%), Dwarves (10%), Other races (10%), Halflings (5%), Gnomes (5%), Half-Orc (5%)
Skalick will trade anything and everything. Outside of the Empress herself, the government is made on the backs of deals made between individuals more often than resolutions reached by committee. Anything and everything is a commodity that is worth considering the trade value of.
The Otruks were the servant class of Skalick. They made up the vast majority of the population. Laws were in place to where no one but a member of a Princely House own land Prices for goods and services were well outside the means of those not belonging to a Princely House. Debtors would be put to work with no means of ever leaving the lord's lands where their children would inherit the debt after their death.
Things came to a head under the rule of Emperor Thegov III. New laws were instated to reduce competitive working wages. Rates were assigned to goods and services across the nation that were well outside the means of the new wages lords were permitted to pay to those not part of a Princely House.
Some people have been fighting back for decades. The thing that broke the yoke was when Theogov III signed into law that not only was a debt inherited by a person’s family upon death, but the person would not be released until after their debt was pair. The Otruk were resurrected instead of being put to rest.
Some of the Princely Houses sided with the Otruk. Chief amongst these was Anna Ishmerac of House Dvoryanstvo. Some of the families that sided with the Otruk’s did so for moral reasons, but more sided with the Otruk’s either for their own family’s survival or to turn a profit.
Anna Ishmerac became the Empress after the death of Thegov III. She worked to get some land into the hands of the Otruk while compensating the Princely Houses for their loss of property using the resources that previously belonged to House Gagarin.
The effects can still be felt today as the large families of Otruk quickly outgrew the small parcels of land they had earned during the Otruk Rebellion.
