Rapid modeling was a way of creating quick prototypes, typically using 3D modeling to complete these prototypes. Being able to create these quick designs is important because it allows people to get a quick grasp of how to handle a bigger problem. The design creates a basis in which they can make a better design that is effective and practical.
Rapid modeling is used in many different aspects of the everyday world. In one of the projects I completed, the goal was to research and explain on of these applications of rapid modeling, specifically additive manufacturing. This type if rapid modeling is the creation of quick models using 3D printing. For my groups project specifically, we research microneedles and how additive manufacturing could be used to benefit this field of medicine. In researching this project, I was placed in a group with one other person, and we were tasked with creating an APA formatted journal with our researched information, an Inventor model of a microneedle, and a poster collage with the design and other information to present.
The microneedle model was a microneedle patch scale up on a 3-inch scale.
The poster was created to present why additive manufacturing was important in the medical field. In the medical not only can additive manufacturing be used as demonstrated with microneedles, but it is also used when creating cast or biomedical parts such as prosthetics. This was the basis of the presentation we completed.
