We were tasked with making a presentation about a career that involved STEM. STEM is an acronym for science, technology, engineering, and math. We needed to research and create a presentation had to be about a job that included one of these parts. We needed to include tasked preformed by the chosen career and knowledge or skills required for the job. We also needed to add activities, duties, and responsibilities for said job, along with the project growth of 2020, the median salary range, education levels needed, and at least two colleges pr universities that you could go to that offers this as a major. Finally, we needed to add potential places that you would work for or that are hiring people in this career.
For my project, I chose to do a power point about astronomers. I chose an astronomer because I have always liked looking at the stars, planets, and constellations. It has always fascinated me on how vast the universe was, so I thought being an astronomer was a cool choice for a job.
When the projects were done, we had to do a voice over of us reading the slides on Screencastify. We would normally present it in front of the class but because of Covid 19 it was decided we would remotely present. After making the voice over we had to upload it to the class discussion board for everyone to see. Then we proceeded with making constructive criticism on the other projects, along with commenting things we liked about them.
This project relates to math because the whole project was to pick a career in the field of math, science, technology, and engineering. The career that I chose has close ties to math as one of the STEM careers. When you are an astronomer, you have to use math all the time. You have to be able to analyze and understand the different numbers and statistic that you get.
The project helped to show us the different types of job that are involved with STEM. It let us take a closer look at jobs we may be interested in the future and helped us to better understand those job. I let us know if it was something we would really want to be interested. This project wasn't really the one of the most fun of projects, but it definitely wasn't one of the worst ones I have done.
