The design process played a big part in this project when building our racers. Throughout this project, we had to utilize the design process in order to create and modify our racers to fit their specific goal. The steps of the design process include defining a problem, brainstorming, research, designing, building a model, testing and improving, and finally analyzing the results.
Down below are the different steps of the design process and how they applied to my group and our racer.
This project could be related to math because when we were testing how fast our racers went, we had to use the time and distance the racer traveled in to calculate the velocity of the racer. We had to do the distance the racer traveled, 2 meters, divided by the time it took for the racer to travel that distance. Our fastest time happened to be 1.3 seconds making our racers fastest velocity 1.6 meters/ second.
Looking back at the racer now, after everything said and done, the racer that my group ended up working pretty well. There were definitely somethings that could have been improved upon, such as making the wheels straighter and sturdier because the racer tended to drift to the left because of the wheel. We did well on most of the races and the project itself was enjoyable. I liked having to work on the racer and deciding how to put it all together. Also, for this project I got the opportunity to work with someone that I have never worked with before.
