Sacrament of Baptism

"Go therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you....."

Matthew 28:19-20

All persons, without exception, are candidates for the reception of the Sacrament of Baptism. Infants and children, younger than seven years of age will be initiated using the Rite of Infant Baptism. Call the Parish Office at (956) 464-3331 for more information.

Children, age seven and older (minors), who are requesting the Sacrament of Baptism need to be initiated through the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults as adapted for children. Adults, nineteen and older, must be initiated through the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults. Completion of the required preparation for this sacrament through the RCIA process is necessary.

Requirements for entering the RCIA for CHILDREN (this is a two year program):

  • must have attended the previous year of Religious Education sessions with less than three absences;
  • child must express some desire to receive Jesus;
  • know the difference between right and wrong;
  • child must know who Jesus is, some main events in His life, and the stories of His birth; His death and His resurrection;
  • family must be attending Mass on Sunday's and Holy Days of Obligation, Retreat and Parent's meetings.
