Walk the World

Calling all Local Walkers young or old.

It’s been a difficult year for fundraising, but Save the Children Malvern Branch has responded in its own inimitable way with some ingenious projects - Online Bingo, the Name the Bear Competition, the socially distanced concert at little Malvern Court and not least the socially distanced street collection using John l’Hullier’s Heath Robinson collection machine.

Now the Malvern Branch of Save the Children are joining volunteers across the UK to Walk the World for children and families in the UK and globally. The challenge is to walk to chosen countries highlighting the work of Save the Children. The countries include the UK, Syria, Cox’s Bazaar (Bangladesh) and Yemen.

We have chosen to walk the 2,786 miles to Syria. Our efforts will help support some of the world’s most vulnerable children here at home and around the world. As a result of Covid-19, more children are living in poverty, going hungry and unable to learn, which is why Save the Children is asking the public to get involved and help change their futures for the better..

Joan Gibson, Secretary, and Sarah Ann Bradford, Treasurer, who are both taking part in the Challenge added: “We are grateful to everyone who supports us in such an innovative idea on how to raise money in the face of the current challenges. Taking part in Walk the World will be a great way of appreciating the wonderful scenery on our doorstep and with every step knowing that we are all helping to make a difference to the lives of families that need our help, now more than ever.”

The walk starts on 1st May and we hope to complete it in 7 weeks. People taking part can walk as many or as few miles as they want. In outline if we get 20 volunteers to join us and walk 20 miles per week each, then we would complete it in the 7 weeks. If we get less people or they don’t walk as far then it will take longer.
