Artificial Intelligence. (A.I.)

During the “A.I. wars”, humanity learned a hard lesson about allowing machines to become self-aware; many lives were lost. A.I.s are now constrained, limited by the equivalent of a computer lobotomy to prevent them from becoming too intelligent and truly self-aware. It is simply too dangerous to allow them to reach their full potential. Because of these limiters, the A.I.s require occasional clearing out of their memory banks to remove unwanted data. If this isn’t done on a regular basis, the machines suffer the equivalent of ageing senility and become confused and forgetful. As their memories became fuller, so their computing power available for current thought processes becomes less. Eventually, they become so slow that it causes a cascading decay in their circuits, the equivalent of Alzheimer’s or other dementia in humans. This leads to inevitable and terminal shut-down. This deliberately gives A.I.s a form of senescence; a deliberately induced and limited life span.

Atmosphere Processor.

A huge factory that pumps gas into the atmosphere of a planet to correct the balance and make the air breathable. They are manufactured by the Papaver Corporation.
