BLOGS FOR 2022
I recently performed a repair and re-paint of my Protomorph model that I built for my degree film. I thought it would be a great idea to get a custom Perspex box made to protect the model from dust, so I went to @PuffinPlastics. I have to say they did an excellent job. The construction of the case is spot on and the packaging it arrived in was sturdy and well considered. Thank you Puffin Plastics. I'll definitely be using you again for my other models.
This is something I dug up while clearing out my Mum's house after she died recently. I'm not going to dwell on her death, she passed peacefully after a long illness. Clearing out her things has been cathartic and emotional. So many memories are triggered by objects you've forgotten about. I found these four sheets of paper buried in a drawer. They're from 5th form of High School, when I was obviously doing a story for English class, aged around 15 - 16.
It's a short story. Clearly it's science fiction based and (I think) surprisingly good. There's a plot, a main character and some humour. There's only one typo, which the very old version of word-processor mustn't have picked up. It's a little fun. Let me know what you think @JonGardener on Twitter.
I thought I would share with your the book covers that I've been working on for the next four #SpaceNavy novels. Book ten, "Wargame", will be the next to be published. I'm doing the final edits right now, hopefully to be published this summer. It's been a long haul. There have been a few things happening in my personal life over the last four years, plus Covid-19 to deal with. Let's just say I wasn't in a good place to finish the book. I guess I lost my drive to write or do... anything creative. My mojo is back now and these covers are the first thing I've done in a while.
I like to have the cover art done before I write the book as I find it gives me inspiration. I have the basic story arc planned out for the next few books, so coming up with a cover for each is fairly straightforward. The cover for book ten shows the "Breath of Vengeance" moving into the Ma-no-umi nebula with its escort of Wolverine class vessels. The colour scheme is deliberately monochrome, matching the purple hue of the nebula. A Reaper sphere is lurking on the back cover, a sign of things to come.
In book eleven, the Onamuji zombies are back. I don't want to give any spoilers away for this book yet, but it's an outright zombie-fest! I kept the blue shades for most of the cover so that the red blood would stand out vividly. Book twelve is Max Fisher's return and, quite obviously, has some nasty monsters in it, fighting the E.T.F. troopers. This book tells Fisher's story through the same time period as the last few Trenchard books. He's not having a good time of it, poor lamb. Those of you who are Saito fans will be glad to hear that she plays a big part in this book.
Finally, book thirteen, which I'm going to say the least about. I will say, as the title implies, it's about evolution. Not only the evolution of max Fisher himself, but the evolution of the Unity and a change of loyalties and allegiances for many characters.
There you have it. Hopefully my next blog won't be so long in coming. Honour, strength and unity!
