CONSTITUTION

The SLGC Lions 2024 Constitution.

Name

The name of the golf society is The SLGC Lions 2024 (hereafter called “the society”), otherwise known as The Lions.

Objective

The objective of the society is to provide a vehicle to maintain friendships formed during 2024, the year the members of the society were Captains of their respective golf clubs.

Ruling Bodies

The society is bound by and agrees to be governed by the rules of golf and amateur status as laid down and from time to time regulated by both the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews (R & A), the English Golf Union (EGU). In addition, the society is bound by and agrees to be governed the rules of the Society of Liverpool Golf Captains (SLGC).

Membership Structure

The membership shall comprise of the gentlemen who were the Captains of the Golf Clubs in the SLGC during the 2024 golf season, plus the 2024 Captain of the SLGC (Captain of Captains).

Furthermore, maintaining individual membership of the Society of Liverpool Golf Captains is a prerequisite of being a member of the SLGC Lions 2024 society.

Committee Structure

The General Committee (hereafter called the committee) will normally comprise three people, the Secretary, Alan James, the Treasurer, Geoffrey Dunn, and the Auditor, Roger Halson. The committee will be elected from the membership by a vote made annually.

Financial Accounting

There will be two signatories on the society bank account, the Treasurer and the Secretary. The Treasurer is responsible for accounting for each society day individually, and for preparation of the accounts for presentation to the Auditor by 31st March each year. The Auditor must present the society’s annual accounts to the committee prior to the AGM in April.

AGM

The society’s AGM will be called by the committee during April each year.

The agenda for the AGM shall be as follows:-

·         Minutes of the last AGM

·         Matters arising from the minutes

·         Secretary’s report

·         Treasurer’s report

·         Motions (including changes to the constitution)

·         Election of the Committee

·         Any other business

·         Proposed Date/venue of next AGM

Nominations for Committee members and notice of motions (including changes to the Constitution) must be made to the Secretary seven days before the Meeting.

EGM

An Extraordinary General Meeting may be called at any time by the Committee or by a written request to the secretary signed by at least 5 members, stating the business to be discussed. 7 days’ notice of such a meeting shall be given to each member.

Quorum

The number of members required to form a quorum shall be 50% of the current membership + 1. Where a quorum is not present at AGMs and EGMs, then no decisions taken at these meetings are binding.

Dissolution

The society may only be dissolved under the following circumstances: an Extraordinary General Meeting of the society must be called and fully attended by the current committee, at this meeting a unanimous vote in favour of the motion “That the society should be discontinued and shall not be reformed” must be obtained. After dispersal of any society debts, all surplus funds will be donated to a charity or charities as chosen by the last elected committee.

Membership – Subscriptions

Membership of the society is regulated by the committee.

Any annual membership subscription (as determined by the committee), which is paid in advance of the forthcoming season, is due on 1st April and payable by 30th April the same year. If payment is not received by this date, the society will cease communication with the member until payment is received. The society may terminate membership if payment is not received by 31st May in the same year. The committee may terminate membership at any time if it is felt that by continuing as a member, harm will be done to the good reputation that the society currently enjoys, or by continuing as a member the committee agrees that the objective of the society is not being met. A member may terminate his membership by offering his resignation in writing to anyone on the current committee. Once resignation has been accepted a former member must not present himself as a member of the SLGC Lions 2024 to any golfing institution.

Society Day Fees and other expenses

All members will maintain a credit balance in their Lions account to cover any expected expenditure for golf days, etc. The Treasurer will regularly send out individual statements of account.  All outstanding debts must be settled before the member attends another society golf day.

Handicap Structure

All members are expected to maintain a club handicap in order to be eligible to win prizes.

Competitions

A number of competitions will be run by the society each year.  All competitions, run by the society must conform with R & A rules, and handicapping.

All competitions will be approved by the committee and confirmed at the AGM each year.

Behaviour

All society members should behave in a courteous and convivial manner to each other and all members of host clubs whilst on the course and within their clubhouse. Never should we lose sight of the fact that we are their guests.

Dress Regulations

All members must be mindful of the standard of dress required by the society whilst on the premises of a golf day venue.

Discipline

Members reported for inconsiderate or poor behaviour by a host club to the society face disciplinary measures up to and including expulsion from the society, subject to consideration by the committee of the reported facts. Any member may also report an incident which may reflect poorly on the society and the committee strongly recommends this be done. A society member who has been reported to the committee will be notified of the circumstance of the report in writing and will have seven days in which to respond to any allegation contained therein. The committee will consider any response in mitigation and may call the member to attend a committee hearing. The outcome of the committee decision will be notified to the member in writing within seven days of the hearing and will be final.

Insurance
All members and guests, at their own expense, are required to have an insurance policy against any liability arising from their actions at a Society event. The Society will NOT be held responsible any loss or damage to property or personal injury however this may arise. Members and guests engaging in the outings organised by the Society undertake to do so at their own risk. No claim can be entertained for damages either against the Committee of the Society, any member of the Society.

Property of the Society
All assets will remain the property of the Society at all times and no member or guest shall accrue any rights thereto or have any claim to the same. All benefits any member or Committee member will accrue shall be declared to the members of the Society. No member is entitled to any asset or part thereof on choosing to leave the Society or (in extreme cases) by expulsion.

Changes To The Constitution

Changes to the constitution can only be made after a majority of full members have voted in favour of a change which must be presented either at the AGM or at a specially convened EGM. Any proposed change must be published to all full members at least 1 week in advance of such a meeting.
