On a benign and sunny day a pride of 16 Lions took to Leasowe Links to hunt for birdies and eagles. We were pleased to welcome Steve (Kingy) Tremarco to the pride for his first outing. The format for the day was an individual Stableford competition, and a team game with best two scores counting.
The links were in great condition and it wasn’t long before birdies were hunted down, but it took to the penultimate hole of the day before an eagle was secured. It was achieved by Paul Jamieson on the 540 yard par 5! Well done Paul.
In terms of the competition the overall winner was Graham Swaby with 37 points, and the winning team was made up of Mark Bardsley, Alan James, Julian Wood and Roger Halson. Of course Nearest the Pin, courtesy of Andy Ayres our professional, went to eagle eye Alan Ainscough – who else? Congratulations to all the winners.
After the golf the Lions returned to the clubhouse to slake their thirsts and to feed on chicken and Eton Mess provided by our new in-house caterers.
All in all it was a very enjoyable day. And yes, we discovered why Steve is referred to as Kingy. He tells us he is a singer and Steve King is his stage name. A very useful addition to our pride in terms of future entertainment, but don’t expect songs for older people he tells us!!
The Winning Team, "Men in Shorts"
Alan James (Huyton & Prescot); Roger Halson (Leasowe);
Julian Wood (Caldy); Mark Bardsley (Ormskirk)
Sadly, we neglected to take any more photos on the day!
