Hosting Captain, Geoff Dunn welcomed our Captain of Captains, John Morris, and 23 fellow Captains.
Ken Boniface, unable to take part in the golf still came along and after enjoying a light brunch with the others present, Ken acted as prime photographer on the 1st tee taking photos of each competing group.
Weather: reasonably warm start with broken sunshine (12.10 pm), giving way to cloud cover and a little cooler. Very light sprinkling of rain for a very short time late on. Hardly any wind at all, unusual for Wallasey!
Format for the day was an individual Stableford off the yellow tees and a challenging team game (two best scores for first 6 holes, 3 best for middle 6 and all to count for last 6).
Team game winners:
Peter Hurst (Widnes), Alan James (Huyton & Prescot), Graham Swaby (Bromborough) and Dave Pennington (Dean Wood).
118 points - congratulations!
Individual Stableford Result:
1st Steve Worthington (Haydock Park ) 40 points
2nd Paul Jamieson (Heswall) 39 points
3rd Mark Bardsley (Ormskirk) 38 Points
Well done Steve on becoming the first Lions Tour winner and our first golfer to break the 40 Stableford points mark. A great show of golf from Paul playing of a handicap of 5, Paul shot a gross 74! And a very nice round from Mark shooting two below his handicap.
All enjoyed the day, the camaraderie and the après golf. Potential Lions golf shirts were tried and tested and it was agreed that we would all have two shirts with the Lions logo on the chest. Our ties were not yet available but will arrive soon!
Thanks to everyone for contributing to a great day and a great start to the Lions 2025/25 Tour. Onwards to Childwall.
