Services

Northgate is located on the junction of the North Coast Railway and the Shorncliffe line and is served by all train services travelling from Gympie North, Nambour, Caboolture, Kippa-Ring and Shorncliffe (with many commencing or terminating at Northgate) to Roma Street with many continuing to Cannon Hill, Cleveland, Ipswich, Rosewood and Springfield Central. Northgate station is located 10.7 km from Roma Street and the approximate travel time is 23 minutes by catching an all stations Shorncliffe line service and 18 minutes by catching a Caboolture, Sunshine Coast or Redcliffe Peninsula line service which runs express to Bowen Hills stopping only at Eagle Junction.

History

Northgate station opened as Toombul on 11 May 1882 at the same time the North Coast Railway opened. It was later named Northgate Junction. "North" comes from North Coast Line and "gate" comes from Sandgate and the two were combined. Later it was just shortened to Northgate. The line was duplicated to Northgate in 1890 and from Northgate to Caboolture in 1917. The North Coast line was electrified to Northgate in 1982 and was extended to Petrie in 1983 and finally to Caboolture in 1986. As a result in the increase of patronage as a result of electrification resulted in the quadruplication to Northgate in 1996.

Platforms

Northgate station has four platforms consisting of two island platforms. Platforms one and two are for Shorncliffe line services and platforms three and four are for Caboolture, Redcliffe Peninsula and Sunshine Coast line services. Services travelling towards Roma Street depart from platforms one, two and three.

Access

Northgate station has three entrances. One on the western side of the overpass leading to the corner of Ridge Street and Ryans Road, one on the eastern side of the overpass leading to the corner of Ridge Street and Holland Street and one on the northern end of platforms one and two leading to a walkway that leads to Hamilton Street, a side street off Toombul Road.

Northgate does have disability access however assistance is required due to the steep ramp at the Holland Street entrance.
