Springfield Central station opened on 2 December 2013 when the line was extended from Richlands.
Springfield Central is named after the homonymous suburb of Springfield Central which was named after the Greater Springfield development.
Springfield Central station has two platforms consisting of an island platform. As it is the terminus station services travelling in both directions arrive and depart from both platforms.
Entry to the station is via a concourse underneath the station.
Springfield Central station does have disability access.
