Nambour station opened in 1891 when the line opened from Landsborough to Yandina. In 1897, the Moreton Central Sugar Mill opened adjacent to the station and to transport sugar cane from the farms in the area a tram line was build from Nambour to different cane farms in the area. The tram line closed in 2003. On 16 December 1963, the current station building was opened by Minister for Transport, Gordon Chalk. On 28 April 1988, the line was electrified from Caboolture to Nambour. On 11 August 1988, the bus station adjacent to the station was opened. On 4 February 1989, the line was electrified beyond Nambour to Gympie North.
Nambour station is named after the homonymous town of Nambour after an early cattle station in the area.
Nambour station has two platforms consisting of a side platform and a bay platform. Services travelling in both directions use both platforms. Gympie North and Traveltrain services use platform 1.
Nambour station has two station entrances. One is on Civic Way and one is the carpark on Price Street.
Nambour station does have disability access.
There is a bus interchange outside the station on Civic Way serving nearby suburbs. The routes serving Nambour are routes 610 to Maroochydore, 612 to Maroochydore, 630 to Noosa Junction, 631 to Noosa Junction, 636, 637, 638, 649 Caboolture to Nambour Railbus and non-TransLink route 890 to Maleny.
Nambour station is the only station on the whole SEQ train network that has a bay platform.
