Do Now: Complete the KWL chart posted on the "Branches of Government" assignment on Google Classroom.
So far we have learned about the compromises of the Constitution, the preamble of the Constitution, and the principles of the Constitution. Now it is time to learn about how our government actually functions and works together. Listen to Ms. DeLora's podcast on the branches of government, while completing the Google Drawing posted on Google Classroom assignment titled "Branches of Government." Be sure to use the key terms on the worksheet posted on Google Classroom to help you.
After completing the podcast, fill in the "L" on your KWL chart. We will have a brain break at the 20 minute mark, which is when you should be done with the podcast and the organizational chart.
After the brain break, you will be assigned a part of the government the create a "Help Wanted" advertisement for, in order to show that you understand the requirements of that branch of government. Because all branches of government work together, you will display your knowledge of the other branches of government when you explain the checks and balances on their advertisement. You will have a choice on the platform that you create your advertisement on. When your advertisement is finished, upload it to the "Branches of Government" assignment posted on Google Classroom.
Close: Answer the question posted on Google Classroom, "How are the branches of government representative of the principles of the Constitution?" After posting your responses, we will have class discussion in our Google Meet for the last five minutes of class. Review the video below if you need any help!
If you finish early, play the "Branches of Power" game on iCivics to see the three branches of government in action. The game is also linked on the Classroom assignment.
