The lesson below is aimed at 8th Grade US History students as a part of Unit 2: Road to Revolution. In our current curriculum, we watch the film 1776 and students answer questions throughout the film. This lesson, as well as the previous lesson which is not listed here, would replace the movie to make the curriculum more student focused.
Once the teacher activated the question on PollEverywhere, students would be able to follow the link on the board to respond to the Do Now. Poll results populate in real time as students submit their answers.
Following the same link posted for the Do Now, students would be able to respond to the exit ticket once the teacher activated the question on PollEverywhere. By polling the students anonymously, they can be more honest in their response.
Teachers can select feedback prompts to help students learn how to properly engage in a discussion. These prompts are useful because they work for both online and live discussions. These prompts also help students who aren't as confident or as experienced in this kind of educational setting to be better prepared. Teachers can select which prompts they want and there is an option at the end that allows teachers to add their own prompts.
Teachers can assess students on their discussion and provide written feedback. They can also select from a list of criteria and rate students. Teachers also have the ability to add their own criteria. You can add as many criteria areas as you would like.
Teachers can put a description of the discussion with the lesson topic, essential questions, and any important information at the top of the page. Teachers can then add any resources, images, PDFs, or videos that are important for students to review before the discussion. This entire section can be personalized but this is the template that they automatically set you up with.
The online discussion page has space to put the discussion questions so students can prepare ahead of time. You can also put Peer Feedback Instructions so students are clear on your expectations for the discussion.
