The first for Britain was shot at St Mary's on 26th September 1838 and now resides in the Great North Museum. Three more occurred in the autumn of 1922 and another autumn 1923. The only other individuals prior to 1950 were two seen in September 1944. Prior to 1960 there was one more record in mid-December 1957.
