The first two county bird reports were published in 1933 and 1934 in sheet form edited by H. Tully, then between 1935-38 the reports appeared in Vasculum and from 1939-56 in the Naturalist, edited by G. W. Temperley. The reports during the years 1952-69 were published in the Society's Transactions then in 1970 the first Birds in Northumbria was issued which continued including a part of Co. Durham, however, after the local government boundaries changes in 1974 Co. Durham records were no longer considered, and this is how the report continues to the present day.
The Farne Islands Committee of the National Trust have published their own report since 1946 being compiled by the Trust's warden-naturalist, with the records coming under the scrutiny of the CRC.
