The first record was of one off Holy Island in September 1962. Unbelievably, three sites have recorded 13 occurrences each, namely, Church Point, Newbiggin-by-the-Sea, Farne Islands and Seaton Sluice. Next best is St Mary's Island with seven occurrences. Since 2019 no sightings were recorded in 2020 and only one occurred in 2021 with thirteen in 2022.
