Golf

Quinn began golfing when he was about 8-10 years old. Around the time he started golfing we took him and Shea for golf lessons at Greenbryre. Quinn seemed to learn golf fairly easily. Shea on the other hand could not figure out whether he is was a righty or a lefty. We spent our summer holidays at Emma Lake. The Lazy K Golf Course (closed in 2019) was a family-friendly 9-hole course close to Emma Lake. It was run by Mary Lou Bird, the very friendly and accommodating owner. We would often go there as a family, have a chat with Mary Lou, and golf a round. The boys sometimes would join up with Connor and Adam Johnson and Cale and Riley Dalshaug for a round a Lazy K. Anyways, those rounds at Lazy K helped lay the foundation for Quinn's love for golf.

As Quinn got older and his game got better, he join his friends for a round of golf at Wildwood Golf Course during the summer holidays. Quinn's interest in golf continued to grow as he got older. He became an avid/regular golfer in the last couple of years of his life. Not only did his interest in golf grow, he had part-time summer jobs related to golf. When he was 15 years old, he worked at the driving range at Wilson's. The next two summers he worked at the Saskatoon Golf and Country Club (SGCC) in the back shop. Quinn liked it at SGCC because he could golf for a discount and would often hit the links after a shift. Quinn really liked his job their and the golfers liked Quinn. So many people have commented, after Quinn passed, how much they enjoyed getting to know Quinn in the back shop. Like everything else in his life, Quinn would get up on his for the early morning shifts at SGCC without complaint or assistance. In fact, it was would the fateful early morning shift at SGCC where Quinn would lose his life on his way to work.

We we in Vernon, BC for Shea's ball hockey national championship in the summer of 2012. We made that into a family summer holiday, and Quinn fairly quickly realized that the Okanogan Valley is home to many great golf golf courses. Exactly one year prior to his passing (Aug. 3rd, 2012), Quinn got to golf at Predator Ridge, near to Kelowna, BC. This course is one of the premier (top 10) courses in Canada. I could not golf with Quinn. Even though he was 16 years old he had no apprehension to golf at one of the best with 3 complete strangers. Just goes to show you how much he wanted to golf there, and more importantly was a reflection of Quinn's friendly and nonchalant attitude - don't worry about the details, just enjoy the moment with whoever. The next day Quinn and I golfed at The Rise, near to Vernon, BC . The picture in the banner of this page is from The Rise. I got lucky with this picture and caught the golf ball about 10 m down the fairway just after he made contact. Like everything in Quinn's life he never passed up an opportunity to enjoy a game of golf.
