Quinn Stevenson Annual Memorial Golf Tournament

QSAMGT 2023

The 10th Quinn Stevenson Annual Memorial Golf Tournament was held Friday, Aug 18th, 2023 at Moon Lake Golf and Country ClubQSAMGT23 was a full tournament this year with 144 golfers (36 teams)This is the first year since the beginning years of the tournament where the tournament was full.  In fact, there was a waiting list this year.  It is heart warming to know so many people are interested to share memories of Quinn, enjoy a day of golf, and support The Trust.

Quinn has not let us down yet with ensuring good weather for the tournament.  The 10 years of QSAGMT has not had one year of significant rain or any inclement weather.  QSAMGT23  started a little smoky/hazy, but ended up to be a comfortable golf day with a little shower at the end of supper/ceremonies.

The notable highlight from this years tourney was two close calls on the Ens Toyota Hole in One hole.  Apparently, Connor Johnson's foursome had two close calls for hole in ones, yes two!  One of the foursome (Connor's workmate) was 2 inches from holing out and another player was darn close as well.  Hopefully we can keep QSAMGT going long enough to see a hole in one.

Craig's is ready to tee off (left) and another serene to conclusion to the tournament (right)

This year we added a new game to QSAGMT.  Each team was given one pink ball.  Players rotated shooting the pink ball for an entire hole.  The pink ball  was passed to the another player at the next hole.  If a team successfully played the pink ball for the entire tournament without losing it, their team was put into a draw for a team prize.  The Kristian St. Onge, Kent Walchuk, Evan Weninger, and Austin Arvay foursome were drawn and each won a tent.

QSAMGT 2022

The 9th Quinn Stevenson Annual Memorial Golf Tournament was held Friday, Aug 19th, 2022.  QSAMGT22, for the first time, was held at Moon Lake Golf and Country Club with about 120 golfers in attendance.

With a course change for 2022, there was a bit more work than usual.  That said, the Moon Lake staff welcomed us and were helpful.  Quinn made sure we had great weather for the 9th Annual tourney.  It was a warm day side with a light breeze wind and a bright blue sky.

I always try to take a final picture of the day near the water feature of the golf course we are hosting at.  I was a little early for a sunset pic - I will try harder next year.

There are often encounter neat 'things' or stories that come with the events we (The Trust) host, like the golf tourney.  QSAMGT22 was not without one of those neat 'things' or stories.

Adam Machart is one of Shea's best friends.  He recently moved to Kelowna to start a supplement story with his brother and dad.  Adam traveled from Kelowna to Saskatoon just to attend QSAMGT22.  To avoid the hassle of traveling with luggage, Adam asked Bonny if Moon Lake would have clubs to rent, or if she knew of a set he could borrow.  Bonny mentioned that he would be welcome to use Quinn's old clubs.  I (Craig) have found it difficult to part with Quinn's clubs because he was proud of his clubs and keeping his clubs close to us is I guess a way I see that we can keep Quinn close to us.  I pulled Quinn's clubs out the day before the tourney and had them readied for Adam.  Apparently, Adam's second shot on the first hole was only inches from hole.  Adam told Austin Arvay just as the ceremonies were about to begin that he felt Quinn helped him with that shot.  There is no doubt in our minds that Quinn was helping Adam with that shot and was present for all the other shots.

Hope to see you back next year for the 10th Annual QSAMGT23.

QSAMGT 2021

The 8th Quinn Stevenson Annual Memorial Golf Tournament was held Friday, Aug 20th, 2021.  The tourney was back at the The Willows - Golf Course & Country Club and we were able to host 'normal' tournament with a shotgun start and banquet.

We had about 120 golfers for QSAMGT21.  We began to see a couple of years ago that the tournament  seemed to run with less hitches.  This was in part due to fact that the organizing committee was getting better at what it does.  The other part of this efficiency was due to the fact that our younger crowd was maturing - Quinn and Shea's friends were taking the golf part more seriously.  That said, everybody continues to have fun and enjoy the day (see photo album).  All accounts from golfers was that everybody thoroughly enjoyed themselves and will be back for QSAMGT22.

With lift COVID restriction we were able to host a 120-golfer shot gun start this year

Each golfer received a great gift and this year we had new pin flags

We were able to have a banquet for QSAMGT21.  Heath Muggli was emcee, and as always Heath entertained us all!  Karen Dow (Craig's sister) said grace to kick off supper.

QSAMGT21 Weather

Weather was not as good as it was in the past few years, but rain clouds stayed away and temperatures were reasonable

QSAMGT21 Sponsors

We had lots of great prizes for the tournament thanks to our prize sponsors.  We always try to make sure most our golfers and attendees go home with some kind of prize.  The Quinn Stevenson Annual Memorial Golf Tournament is an important fundraiser for The Trust.  The Quinn Stevenson Golf Tournament fundraising success would not be possible without the medal sponsors, silent auction items, and 50/50.  Thanks to Cathy Kozak's salesmanship the 50/50 raised $1,105 for The Trust and Brook Zambon took home the same amount.  We also would like to acknowledge our other sponsors that make our tournament the triumph it is, but in particular we would like to thank our safe ride home sponsor, riide.  We like everyone to have fun, but it is really important to us that everyone gets home safe.

Thanks again to all of our great volunteers.  Without your time and toil, we could not make QSAMGT a reality.  Our sponsors ensure that fundraising for The Trust can happen.  And of course, thank you the golfers, for making QSAMGT another huge success.  Thank you and see you next August!

Another sunset signals the end of great day of golf and fellowship.  We have to believe that Quinn has and continues to share every enjoyable moment.

QSAMGT 2020

This iteration of Quinn Stevenson Annual Memorial Golf Tournament was a challenging one.  COVID-19 presented some challenges to the QSAMGT organizing committee.  Around May-June, when we typically begin to organize the tourney, The Willows was not sure whether a golf event was possible.  As we moved into July, there was a possibility that we could run some kind of golf day.  As the summer progressed, we realized that every course was dealing with COVID-19 rules a little differently.  Therefore, a change was required to make QSAMGT20 happen.

The 7th Quinn Stevenson Annual Memorial Golf Tournament was held Friday, Aug 21st, 2020 at Greenbryre Golf & Country Club.  This year we had to limit the number of golfers, a shotgun start was not possible, and we could not have a banquet.  Despite these restrictions, the Greenbrye staff did a great job of hosting the day and everyone enjoyed an opportunity, whatever it is, to celebrate Quinn's life and enjoy a game that Quinn also enjoyed.

This picture was taken on the back 9 at The Rise (Vernon).  The course was very quiet and the weather was spectacular.  The lighting for the picture was not great (you can see the remnants of my feeble attempt to fix the picture), however, the view was spectacular.  Quinn is proudly wearing the Predator Ridge golf shirt he bought the day before.  Quinn passed away exactly one year and a day after this photo...  Quinn golfed one of the best courses in Canada - Predator Ridge - exactly one year before his passing.

QSAMGT 2019

The 6th Annual Quinn Stevenson Annual Memorial Golf Tournament was held Sat., Aug, 23rd, 2019 at The Willows Golf & Country Club.

As usual, registrations uptake was slow, but in the end we had 108 golfers and 24 additional folks that just attended supper.  These numbers are fairly similar to the past few years.  We are always indebted to the 'regulars' who continue to support QSAMGT and those 'newbies' who come and experience a great day of golf and commemorate the great life of Quinn Stevenson.

This iteration of QSAMGT was unique on a few of levels.  One aspect of this tourney compared to past QSAMGT was how well things seem to come together and who was the golf day came off.  I think part of this newly found efficiency is in no small part due to the people who make this day happen - Darrin, Shelley, Andrea, Cathy, and our crew of volunteers.

Another factor that may have contributed to the efficiency of QSAMGT19 is that it becoming a more mature tournament.  Quinn and Shea's friends are all growing up.  With age and maturity it should be expected that there will be less chaos.  It is not that everyone did not have some fun (e.g., our Hit the Green volunteers on Xena #4 enjoyed themselves 😉) - it's just are more controlled level of fun.  Quinn was all about enjoying life and having fun, so we hope that QSAMGT can be a day that we continue celebrate his life with a fun day of golf and fellowship.

Heath (Muggli), as always, did not disappoint as ceremonies emcee.  His sharp sense of humor and great public speaking skills kept us entertained.  This year included a bit of twist from Heath.  As he began to get the ceremonies underway, his chat led us through the tourney program and particularly focusing on what The Trust has done.  Heath got very emotional when mentioning all the things The Trust has given back to our community.  I cannot recollect the exact words Heath used, but I believe he was trying to tell us that Quinn's life was a special one, and that the large life he led in his short years continues with us today in the form of the The Trust.  The energy that Quinn left us help's Bonny, myself, and all of us connected to The Trust to continue living his life.  Quinn's life was a gift to us all and I think we all recognize that we can keep him close to us by continuing to celebrate together at events like QSAMGT.  Heath captured these thoughts in his preamble to the evening ceremonies.

The end of another beautiful QSAMGT day.  Each year I take a photo overlooking the pond/fountain on Lakes #9 at end of the day.  I feel this photo is like a serene signal from Quinn that he was watching and enjoying the tourney festivities.  I so wish he could be here with us to enjoy this celebration of his life.  Feeling his presence through this photo after every QSAMGT will have to suffice.

The 5th Annual Quinn Stevenson Annual Memorial Golf Tournament was held Sat., Aug, 17th, 2018 at The Willows Golf & Country Club.

The 5th Annual Quinn Stevenson Annual Memorial Golf Tournament was huge success.  We had a beautiful day for golf and by all accounts fun was had by all!  We just want to take this opportunity to give you a quick update on the golf tournament and most importantly, pass on a big Thank You attending our event!  Without your tremendous support, the day would not be nearly the success it was.  We hope you had a great time and will consider being involved again in 2019.  If you have any thoughts or comments that will make the day even better for next year, please don’t hesitate to send us a note.  Attached is the signage that was used at the tournament and a copy of what the Quinn’s Trust has been doing. Please support our sponsors.

Quinn would have been proud of the large gathering that came together to remember and share stories in his memory. He would be amazed and thankful of all the support and thrilled by the amount of fun had by all. Hope to see you all next year and once again, THANK YOU!

We are so grateful to the QSAMGT Sponsors and Donors.  Their generosity keeps this tournament going, which in turn helps us continue things we do in the community with The Trust.

The end of another beautiful QSAMGT day - notice the orange sunset from forest fire smoke.  Hard not to feel Quinn's presence.

I have made it a tradition to take a photo of the sunset following another fantastic and fun QSAMGT.  This year we had a orange glowing sunset from the forest fire smoke haze.  Looking at the photo from this year, it is hard not to think that Quinn was taken from us 5 years ago - our last physical memory of Quinn is getting more distant with time.  This year I look at the people at the banquet and think about how a lot of the people golfing and attending the banquet, and helping us pull of this tourney that have stuck with us for 5 years.  Without their support this new journey our lives our lives took after Aug. 3rd, 2013 would not have been as positive.  We are very fortunate to have people that care so much that allows us to continue to memorialize Quinn and keep The Trust alive.  Thanks to everyone...you know who you are!  See you all again next summer for the 6th Annual Quinn Stevenson Annual Memorial Golf Tournament  - date yet to be decided.

QSAMGT 2017

The 4th Annual Quinn Stevenson Annual Memorial Golf Tournament was held Sat., Aug, 12th, 2017 at The Willows Golf & Country Club.  We had fantastic weather for the past two tourneys, and 2017 was no exception with sunny skies, warm temps, and light winds.

The 4th iteration of QSAMGT had --- golfers and --- individuals that attended supper.  As always, we sincerely appreciate the support of our Gold and Bronze sponsors, all those that donated cash and prizes (see below), and everyone that volunteered the day of the tournament.  See Bonny’s Instagram below.  Special thanks to Darrin, Shelley, Andrea, and Cathy - without you guys QSAMGT would not be the great event it is.  Furthermore, the donations and money raised from them help to keep The Trust going.  The Trust is very important to us because it allow us to do good in our community in Quinn's, honour our son, and help create awareness of the perils of impaired drinking driving.  And last but not least, thanks Heath for doing a great job of emceeing - you always keep the program funny and organized.

This was the first year we had United Cabs on board with 20, $25 vouchers for those who needed a ride home.  The Trust also provided a similar voucher to anyone requesting a taxi after the United Cab donated vouchers were gone.  The taxi voucher ended up to be popular and United Cabs ensured enough cabs were available.  Bonny and I felt good knowing everyone had a safe ride home.  Thanks United Cabs!

Every year I take a picture of the tranquil Willows at the end of the day.  The beautiful sunset is the reflection of the life of a young man whose life was taken to soon.  While taking this picture, it was had not to think of Quinn teeing off at The Rise in beautiful Vernon, BC.  It was one of those moments with Quinn, just 1 year before his passing, that I will never forget.  Hope to see you at QSAMGT 2018!
