Undead Swamps

The most regionally renowned Undead Swamps in the world, Oya's Undead Swamps span over most of the western region of Karkana. Split into two biomes, both hot and cold, this is the perfect place for undead life to flourish.

Ecology

The ecology of the Undead Swamps is an unusual one, that's no mystery to anyone. They're cold, filled with acidic mana water and have an unusual seasonal system seen no where else in the world, which makes it not just one of the most amazing places in the world, but also one of the hardest to survive in.

Throughout the entire swamp, mana water is featured. All of this mana water is infused exclusively with elemental (acidic) and atomic magic, making it extremely dangerous to be touched without any form of special protection, biological or manmade. It's extremely corrosive properties burn through skin, leather and metal.

Seasonal changes occur once every 10-2 months and switch only between two extreme seasons: For 10 months of the year, the Undead Swamp is in 'winter' in which the biome will be white and foggy, and either temperate or freezing cold. The remaining two months are when it turns to summer, changing the entire undead swamps to be red and orange. The temperatues become much higher during this season and plants exclusive to it flourish in abundance.

Current season: Winter

Inhabitants

Typical of the name, the vast majority of the inhabitants are undeads and spirits, creatures which have already lived out their first life and are now living as ghosts or another form of undead species.

This can vary from large undead dragons to smaller skeletal animals such as the skeletal titanoboa or ghost piranha fish hiding within the swampy mana waters. Insects and other unusual ghostly creatures are also in high abundance, but the most common species found here is the Poltergeisten, possessing different foliage, fauna and rocks to live within.

Non undead species, although less common than the spirits, can still be found regularly. The most common non undead species is the snapdragon, a tiny flower dragon resembling an orchid which lives within the healing petals of the healing orchids which line the many mana rivers.

Plantlife

The Undead Swamps is filled with a magnaniumous variety of plants exclusive only to this biome. This section details a few of the most common ones.

Spiritasa Bambusa: The undead bambusa trees of the swamp, standing tall and creating a canopy over the entire forest, with the only light spreading through being the light from the distance or what reflects off of their leaves. These trees are said to resemble people who have passed, and for every person who dies, a new silver leaf forms. When that person has finished their second life, the leaf will turn gold and fall to the floor. These leaves can be collected and sold for up to 50 gold each. Stealing a silver leaf will result in permanent banishment from the swamp.

Healing Orchid: Giant healing orchids which line the waters of the mana rivers, these orchids do exactly as their name suggests. They heal. Snapdragons make these orchids their homes and usually keep them closed tight, but if a person is in dire need of health, they will emit a soft yellow glow and leech energy out to the individual, healing them slowly over time.

Ember petal: Burning hot flowers which grow in the summer season, their petals can set any flammable substance alight. Holding the stem will not burn you.
