The Caverns

#caverns

Stemming beneath the entirety of Neverwinter's home valley, the Blighted Plateau, are large, deep caverns and crevices of which house unusual and dark monsters and beasts, many of whom have never seen the light of day.

The ground down here is entirely lit up by bioluminescent crystals and plantlife, most of which are yellow in colouration, and only when you're close to the entrances will you see the light of day. It's extremely easy to get lost in here, which is why it's recommended you bring some form of navigation down with you.

All of the caves seem to follow a direct path towards on specific location: A wide, open cavern flourishing with life known as the fertile chambers. Large, connected caves brimming with plant and animal life make up this entire region.

Fertile Chambers

#fertile-chambers

The fertile chambers are located at the deepest depths of Neverwinter's caverns, a large underground region situated beneath the mountains well known for being a nesting hot spot of dragons, cockatrices and other egg laying beasts and cryptids. On occasion, even Scorchers will use it as a safe haven to lay their eggs.

It gets its name from the unusual atmosphere the cavern adorns when compared to the rest of the caves in the entire region. Usually they're brightly coloured and completely flourishing with life in all forms, from plants to both titan and microscopic class creatures.

Breaches in the ceiling of the cavern create an almost hexacomb feel, similar to what can be found roofing the Mana Rifes, allowing light to breach into the cavern.

Watcher's Forest

#watchers-forest

A dark forest lining the edges of the entire Blighted Plateau, the entire area of which it inhabits seems to be entirely lacking in most natural life. Many of the plants are dead, crumbling or coated in thick layers of soot and ash, and a thick smaug-like mist often lies close to the ground no matter what time of day it is.

It was fittingly named after multiple individuals who travelled through here found that it felt as though they were been watched by someone, or something. Numerous people have travelled through here in groups and have returned in either lesser numbers, or alone, claiming that the trees followed them and snatched them up one by one.

Although none of these stories are confirmed true or false, many people fear these forests for this exact reason.

Elven Skyhold

#elven-skyhold

Now almost entirely deserted and forgotten, the Elven Skyhold is an ancient, Giant Mangoola Elven society where those of high nobility and class would live among nature to work in peace. It's believed this society existed even before Neverwinter, but was destroyed in one of the many incursions, however it remains unknown.

Some individuals do still live within its ruins, in small homes they've patched up within these magnanimous trees. It isn't exclusively elves anymore, but the elves which do still live here don't seem to mind and are happy to share their ancient relic of 'superiority' as they know it, likely to show off to the other species about their heritance.

Icespire Peak

#icespire-peak

A distant and huge mountain in the far north of Karkana, distant from Neverwinter but right on the edge of the Blighted Plateau, this mountain resides in a huge glacial valley segmented between the very edge of the Ergo Wilds and Karkana's northern peak, overlooking the small gulf between the two and the corrupted valley below.

The corrupted valley is what turned this mountain into such an icey hotspot, the cold corruption from below travelling up and completely shifting the climate into an entirely ice-coated, cold dome.

Many cold dwelling creatures live up here, mostly titan class beasts and dragons, so exploration of this location is only advised if you're well prepared to face off against a large beast.

Scorcher Grokdruls | Magma

#magma-grokdruls

The Scorcher Grokdruls are fittingly named valleys or caverns filled with heavy scorcher and volcanic activity. The main volcanic Grokdrul in Neverwinter, and the most popular one among Scorchers currently resides beneath one of the many mountainous overhangs to the north-west of the city, close enough for both the mountain and the city to be visible from either point.

These Grokdruls are used by the scorchers as an exclusive steamy bathhouse of fire and magma. Each Grokdrul varies in temperature following the content of its magma, and as such each heat based scorcher can find one which is perfect for them.

Additionally, fire proof Dragonics, wild dragons and heat based creatures and some hotter elementals or spirits may also utilise the Grokdruls. Take caution when selecting one, some scorchers can be extremely defensive over their chosen grokdruls.

Scorcher Grokdruls | Cryowater

#cryowater-grokdruls

The total opposite of the magma Grokdruls, these Grokdruls are exclusively Cryowater, a thick, viscous; glittery blue substance forming in extremely cold regions and reaching temperatures as low as total sub-zero. Of course, these grokdruls don't form in the same way as Magma Grokdruls do from their vents: they form from deep underground deposits of Cryowater being dragged to the surface by collapsing ice.

Located at the base of icespire peak, those who wish to climb the mountain are required first to safely traverse the grokdruls. Some grokdruls are coated with a thin sheen of ice almost indistinguishable from the landscape, so travellers are advised to tread carefully.

Much like the magma grokdruls of Neverwinter's overhangs, these grokdruls are home to scorchers who have a desire to bathe and relaxe, though these in particular are home to those who prefer the lowest of low temperatures, specifically the Ischendia. Colder species can also remain here, the scorchers here are less defensive over their pools because of the huge sizes they can reach.
