Gorgon Labyrinth

The Gorgon Labyrinth is a vast, cavernous area situated beneath the feet of those who have settled above ground in Neverwinter. It's as massive as the ground above, spanning across the entire underneath of Neverwinter, but only a concentrate region has been discovered; that which lies beneath the Sleeping Dragon Bridge. The entire labyrinth seems to be made entirely out of metal, and resembles an ancient city reclaimed entirely by the damp, dank caverns which support the city above.

The Labyrinth

The Gorgon Labyrinth is a fittingly named labyrinth which stretched across the entire underground of Neverwinter. The entrance lies beneath the Sleeping Dragon Bridge, a huge bridge stretching across an empty drainage stream which cuts through the entire city. 11 months of the year this drainage stream is empty, but for the final month of the year, it's filled with water and all access in and out of the labyrinth is blocked.

Despite it's size, only about 12% of the labyrinth can be accessed and charted. These are separated into two sections: Gorgon Aile and Mantagora Alley. The rest of the labyrinth is blocked off by huge metal doors sealed together by naturally formed stone, and all efforts to get through them have as of yet been futile.

It's unclear to everyone just how the labyrinth got here. It's state upon discovery suggested it'd been there for thousands, if not millions of years before the construction of Neverwinter, and any other settlement in the world. Some theorise it to be the work of the deities, and those who successfully explore it's walls past the blockades will be rewarded somehow.

Gorgon Aisle

#gorgon-labyrinth

Constructed entirely out of the surrounding ancient stone and metal, Gorgon Aile is the first part of the labyrinth individuals will find themselves in upon entering. The metal ruins have been entirely converted into a huge residential district surrounding and roofed by rocky caverns and lit up by magical sources, glowing stones and bioluminescent mana water.

Fittingly named after the abundance of serpentines living down here. Other unusual chimerics also find themselves living down here, in the forms of minotaurs, centraurs, gharials and other unusual half animal half human creatures.

The individuals who live down here tend to be extremely xenophobic and will entirely ignore anyone who they see as an outsider. Sometimes individuals break this taboo to speak to people from the outside, but generally they see it to be a sin, believing that the labyrinth they've been 'gifted from the gods' is sacred land, and that everywhere outside is tainted land to be shunned.

Mantagora Alley

#gorgon-labyrinth

The second accessible district of the Gorgon Labyrinth, Mantagora alley is fittingly named for the Mantagora who find their homes within this more ruined section of the underground. Being just outside of the metal ruins, the entirety of this alley is built into the cavern walls and pillars, though unusually it seems to be just as old as the metal ruins themselves.

Those who live in this district usually don't patch up their homes and live in them as they're given, though that isn't extremely unusual considering the vast majority of its inhabitants are the unusual, infamous insect humanoid species.

Although not as xenophobic as Gorgon Aile, the inhabitants of Mantagora Alley will still shun those who come from the outside. It isn't considered taboo to interact with outsiders here, however, as they don't consider the alley as sacred land due to it being outside of the reach of the metal ruins.
