The Tree

Resting just a few miles east of the lake of life lies a huge tree with a long, winding trunk and purple leaves as bioluminescent as the mana waters themselves. This has been referred to in ancient legend as the Tree of Spirit, the Undead Bambusa and was once even feared by locals, thought to have been an opening to the gates of hell.

The tree itself is an ancient pygmy bambusa tree, a small bambusa designed for life in the heart of the desert. No other trees of its kind have been found in recent times and its believe to be the last of its species, though it never seems to release any seeds, or any way for more trees of its kind to sprout and grow.

Despite this, the tree shows no sign of losing life, and is evidently extremely old. Surrounded by the ancient ruins of sandstone temples, it's believed to have once been worshipped by the ancient civilization which once walked the deserts, now home to many different species of spirits and shamans.

Shamanism

Shamans from across the globe may take journeys of days, even months to reach this extraordinary tree. Many of them do it simply for the sight of the tree itself, but others believe there is something deeper to the tree than merely being a home of spirits. They wish to find out why the spirits are attracted to the tree, and what might be drawing them to it.

In doing this, the shamans discovered an ancient portal frame wedge into the trunk of the tree, or perhaps grown around it. Obtaining it is next to impossible without damaging or threatening the life of the tree, but they believe it may be the missing link between Albor Valley and The Shadow Oasis.

How it got there is unclear, but magical shamans claim to detect a magical source surrounding the tree. growing stronger towards the frame of the portal. It's as though the tree was grown purposefully around the frame to keep them out, or to keep something in. This has yet to be confirmed.
