The reverse world, a dark world where those who die a neutral death go to live a lonely, quiet and uneventful second life. Some see this realnm as a form of partial punishment for the minor sins they've committed, while others think of it as having mercy on those who are being sent here for reasons which may be out of their control.
Limbo is a reverse world, an exact, almost apocalyptic looking copy of the overworld. This is as far as the overworld definition for purgatory reaches: a copied world designed to ''disorient'' and ''provide an uncomfortable sense of familiarity.'' This definition is false.
Simply put, the definition of a reverse world is a dimension which is parallel to the overworld (making it a copy or clone of the overworld) while sharing attributes of the two dimensions closest to it, in this instance Aeden and The Everdark. Limbo is a combination of the two, which is why it is defined and controlled as the realm of neutral death.
It's here that individuals are encouraged to try and refine themselves into something better, change their alignment and redeem themselves for one of the two overshadowing afterlife realms.
The realm gate is a large, guarded stairway north of the Limbo Tower, the main gateway of access from Limbo to the two overshadowing realms of Aeden and The Everdark.
Individuals of both mostly lawful and mostly chaotic alignment coexist within this realm- some are even a perfect balance of the two. Being sent to Limbo is considered punishment for this, punishment from the gods for not being true to yourself, for being weak and indecisive. This is as much myth as the myth of Limbo being intended to disorient and scare.
Those who are sent to Limbo are sent here not to be punished or shunned, but to better themselves and progress towards their destined alignment. They can then receive a second judgement at the gate from the Ketu guards, and if they pass, be sent on their way to their chosen realm.
The large overshadowing tower in the heart of the shadowy flatlands away from the reverse, cloned settlements, this tower is the home of those who guard, defend and govern over the realm, including the realms designated deity- Lumalia. This is where individuals are initially passed into Limbo and converted into Limbo Walkers, the designated Limbo spirits.
Everyone who is sent to Limbo to begin their second life becomes a Limbo walker, a shadowy, black figure with hollow, white sockets for eyes. Although creepy looking, these specialised spirits have as much personality and brains as any other highly sentient being.
A large, empty space of void within the open blackened plains of Limbo, the Lake of Shadow is a misty brine pool brimming with void energy. This is probably the most dangerous of all the ecological locations within purgatory. Entering this void brine pool will send anyone into toxic shock, and drown them if they fail to escape in time.
A lack of interest coming from the community of purgatory means that the history and geography of this brine pool has yet to be investigated deeply.
