Vampires

Vampires are a species of nocturnal shape shifting carnivore, typically taking on the form of either a bat or a pale skinned tenter. While they can eat food, a vampire’s preferred lunch is the blood of an enemy, usually directing towards the neck, wrist or behind the ear. While powerful at night, their inability to go out during the daytime, or in any form of light not originating from a flame or magical source, makes them laughable among the other species of Quiazal and a much disliked species in general.

Most vampires prefer to use dark magics, from blood manipulation and corruption weaving to possession and patriumus (paralysing the target with essence manipulation.) They can do this without magic items, but the use of crystal balls typically enhances their ability to possess or summon darker forces to assist them. Commonly found in Neverwinter and Oya, vampires prefer a gothic style of living, keeping to the underground or dark buildings.

While most Vampires can't go out in the sun at all, there are some instances where they will be more resistant to the energy provided by the giant ball of flames depending on the thickness of their skin, and the weather. On clouded or stormy days, all vampires can go outside, and in winter most can handle the sun if their skin is thick enough, or if they're wearing the correct clothing.

On the contrary, some vampires are much more sensitive to light and can't go out at all without special spells our clothing. The glow of the moon is light reflected from the sun, and as such still has the potential to damage them if they're not protected enough.

Vampires, although not physically looking the part, are extremely distant relatives of the same Genus which Elves and Gnomes are found in. Similarly to gnomes, they appear to be a mixture of Elves and Humans, being physically distinctive of both of them. It's their bloodlust and physical internal biology which separates them as a subspecies and not a hybrid.

They are entirely carnivorous, and while eating anything of organic plant or insect material will not harm their digestive tracts, it will not provide them with any sustenance. Eating anything which isn't meat acts as the equivalent of starving themselves, and their body won't even register that they've consumed something.

This of course means their teeth need to be adapted to their main diet: blood. While they do have large incisors and molars, their main teeth are their hooked, bat like canines.
