Demons

Originating in realms of darkness, such as the Everdark and Limbo, Malevolent beings are the demonic characters of Quiazal. These species typically follow in the footsteps of the Destruction deities, and seek out causing nothing but mischief for those of the mortal realms, or even those in their own realms.

Typically, Malevolent beings have a preference for using dark, or destructively elemental, forms of magic. Many also exhibit illusion magics to assist in their ability to cause mischief and other forms of problems for those they terrorise. Lots also possess the ability to possess people, objects and other creatures.

Much like Benevolent (angelic) beings, Malevolent beings can be either born as themselves, or live a life with the history of a past life.

Characters who die have the option to become a Malevolent being as their afterlife species.

Common Demon

The Common Demon is, as its name suggests, the most common species of demons originating from the Everdark, and the most basic. Knowing only basic dark and fire magic, Common Demons are much more physically adept to combat, having features such as horns, tails and wings often sprouted on them to be used in combat.

Some more advanced individuals may find themselves capable of shapeshifting into the most basic of forms, sometimes to remove their appendages, while others more advanced in the art can completely change their appearances. Unlike Changelings, Common Demons cannot shapeshift to match the appearance of another species.

They can also use this ability to change the appearance of their magic, i.e. making their flames look like a spray of water, however this doesn’t change the damage type, i.e. fire magic made to look like water will still deal fire damage. This can be used for opponent distraction and mental damage.

The vast majority of common Demons have a particular alignment which they keep themselves permanently ailed with in regards to the sisters of night and day, the Sun and the Moon. To all other species, this story is practically unknown, but to common demons it is an important tale about how the sister of the Moon, the pale lady or Baba Yaga as they call her, attempted to strike down her older sister for an eternal night.

Some demons side with the sister of the Sun, believing the day holds as much importance as the night does, while others side with Baba Yaga and uphold the belief that only the night is important, and that the day damages beings of malevolence.

No two Common demons are the same, which is one of the leading factors as to why they're so hard to distinguish as being.. Well, common demons. Each individual demon has its own unique shapeshifting and illusionary abilities, all of which they use to create the exact look they want for them. While they can't directly mimic other species like say a changeling could, they can give themselves parts of that species. One of the leading examples of this is the act of giving themselves hoofed legs or bat wings.

Much like all other shapeshifters or camouflagers, Common demons can also change the colour of their skin at will. They can't change the way it appears, the texture of it or change its patterns as they only have flat tones unless they paint colours on, but it's still vital to their survival (as well as their personal style.)

Larelli

Larelli are the sexual deviants of the Everdark, roaming all realms and dimensions in search of feeding targets. They mostly target sleeping men/women, appearing in their dreams as someone who they most desire in an attempt to seduce them before feeding off of the magic of their essence through means of either soul emulsification (drawing the soul out through the mouth), sexual intercourse or by stealing their entire essence and draining it.

Repeated sexual activity with a succubus through these means can result in deterioration of mental health to the point of suicide, or physical health until death, at which point the Larelli will then finish feeding on the person through 'cannibalism'. Sexual intercourse outside of dreams will not deteriorate mental or physical health as the person is then not a target of them and instead merely a sexual partner.

They can be found roaming just about everywhere, usually walking around in revealing outfits to try and draw people in to suck their life essences. If they choose, they can suck the life essence of someone while they’re awake, though it’s much more risky.

Larelli are Quiazal's equivalent of Succubi and Incubi, and can be warded off in the exact same ways. Males are said to be warded off through the act of defending a bed with Peony flowers, much like how one would keep away a vampire with Garlic around their bed. They can also be warded off by a rotten concoction held within a cauldron. Females can be kept away with Bluebell flowers around the bed in place of Peonies, or by light enchanted Phallic objects.

The scent and voice of most Larelli is nearly entirely irresistable to those who have no experience with them. People who fear them will naturally carry around the appropriate flowers to keep their distance, and all Larelli fear the flower which corresponds with their sex.

Larelli look almost identical to Tenters, and can often mask their magical scents for the purpose of looking just as meek and feeble as the beings themselves. Species with exceptionally strong noses or magical scents can always distinguish them as being Larelli, but outside of that it's near impossible to tell, which is what makes them so deadly.

The diet of Larelli is Mageami (Magami) which means they gain absolutely no sustenance from regular meals. Instead, their full sustenance must come from magical or ethereal energy most commonly sourced from organic beings, but in dire situations can also be sourced from natural mana deposits situated around the world.

Larelli can and do eat regular foods for the luxury and taste of it, but it's equivalent to a human eating paper. While they can digest it, it doesn't give them any sort of sustenance.

Imps

Imps are the smallest of demons originating from the Everdark, being the daemonic counterparts of Goblins. Standing up to 4ft in height, just like Goblins, Imps are masters of the art of stealing and causing mischief. Along with this, they’re experts in the use of illusion magic, often using it as distractions for their mates to run in and steal some trinkets from someone. Unlike Goblins, Imps care a lot about stashing the treasures they find, and will immediately take them home to their caves and roosts to hide and safekeep.

Much like Goblins, their small size makes them especially good at escaping and moving quickly, however they’re most commonly only bipedal and so lack the extra speed Goblins can get from running like monkeys. To make up for this, they can use illusions to - for lack of better term - play prop hunt with whoever is looking for them, turning themselves into different kinds of furniture and objects in the area and hiding among them until they reach their exit, running or floating away once they’re safe.

They may be small and weak, but if an Imp is successful in stealing a decent piece of technology or weaponry from another individual, it can greatly up their potential. What they lack of in physical strength is made up for in amazing wisdom and technical abilities, all of which they put to use both for their theft and for their minor shapeshifting ability.

Much like Common Demons, no two Imps look the same, but not for the same reasons. Their skin is always shades of black and dark blue, with some having faun legs and some looking more humanoid, and even sometimes looking more like gargoyles. They can't, however, change their normal appearance at will.

Imp society is more like the common tribal societies found among Orcarus and Goblins. They tend to live in small distant villages away from the main cities constructed of small huts, made out of whatever the natural surrounding environments can provide them, only travelling into the depths of the cities for their own gains.

Their outfits are commonly made out of animal kills and natural items: Leathers, skins, feathers, twigs, antlers and whatever else they can obtain. Only Imps with the highest of riches dress like those who live within the cities, but find themselves most comfortable in the skins which the natural world provides for them. Some even hide their faces behind masks for complete anonymity, remaining at one with the secrecy of the world.

Imps are entirely carnivorous, but can get a degree of sustenance from eating plant fibres should their situations need it. Many refuse to purchase or steal meats from the cities, only hunting the animals from their surrounding wilds unless it's desperately needed.

Drudes

Drudes (M) and Mares (F) are demons of sleep and nightmares, focusing their attention heavily on sleeping targets. Similarly to Larelli, Drudes and Mares feed off of the souls of sleeping people, however instead of using sexual intent they rely entirely on creating nightmares and horrific visions. The slight difference between Drudes and Mares are that Drudes eat them in their sleep, while Mares sit on the chests of their sleeping targets and eat them once they’ve woken up from the nightmare conjured.

Typically their attempts will succeed, however if the person has a dreamcatcher or wakes up and successfully fights them away, they will instead stick to attempting to inflict mental damage, driving them through stages of insanity and eventual suicide by haunting them day in day out. They do this by changing their physical composition and making it so only their target can see them at any given moment, giving their target the appearance of insanity around other people until eventual real insanity from the eventual belief that what they’re seeing isn’t real.

The natural appearance of a Drude or Mare changes depending on the level of light present in their environment. In lighter environments, they will appear much more like themselves: entirely monochromatic with large horns or tails present and dark rings around their eyes. In darker areas, their appearance changes to more closely resemble a drippy corruptor but in black and white, with dark matter leaking from their tar-like bodies, and faces white and empty with a cheek to cheek grin permanently present.

All Drudes are entirely monochromatic because of their entirely dream and night centred lives. The only colours present on them is white, black and varying shades of grey.

While the males (Drudes) and females (Mares) don't have any visual sexual dimorphism, they do have it present in the way people can fend them off, as well as how they attack their targets. Of course, all Drudes and Mares can be warded off with Dream Catchers which sap away the nightmares and visions they attempt to conjure, but this won't always work. Having brightly coloured and dimly lit rooms prevents the Drudes and Mares from transforming into their darker versions as specified in the above section, stopping them from being able to attack.

Traditionally, Drudes and Mares are also the leading cause of sleep paralysis, and at the point of them ''haunting'' a failed target, they are then considered to be sleep paralysis demons. They are the creatures which people see on their chests or in their rooms, feeding off of them while they're incapable of moving. Only should the person break free from their grasp will they begin to haunt them.
