So got some 360 deg pictures of my yard after I mowed it today. I got to do some experimenting with a visor to reduce glare and reflections that may be problematic for mapping. Behold:
Notice the red rings and the twinkles close to the edge of the shade line.....This is due to glare. I anticipated this, so I brought a large box to use as a visor for the 360 rig.
Here you can see that the ringing is not as bad with the visor box.
This is how I set this photo shoot up. The camera is a Cannon S2IS. You can get your own from ebay from $15-$150.
I don't think this camera will work for the robot!
Gross! look how nasty the glass looks (I bet it is reflections).
Now lets try to de-warp the image.

These dewarped images are in order as they appear above. Notice the glare is present here and the next image.
The glare is almost gone in these two images thanks to the box acting as a visor.
I hope this works with LSD-SLAM.
