The Mamod loco, perhaps more than any other production 16mm scale steam locomotive, has tremendous potential for being adapted and kit-bashed. This has led to a demand for upgrades and accessories to support the many owners looking to improve the performance and/or appearance of their SL engines. Numerous suppliers emerged, some new and some existing, who expanded their offerings to provide numerous mamodification products and services. Many of these parts are no longer available new. Some of these suppliers and their Mamod modification parts are featured in these pages.

I.P. Engineering [IPE] are one of the largest manufacturers for the garden railway enthusiast and associated industries. At one time, IPE produced and sold the 'Jane' locomotive which went on to become the PPS and now RWM 'Janet'. IPE made a wide range of Mamod upgrade components.
Ken Best came up with a novel way of upgrading the looks of the Mamod SL with the 'Kenversions' drop-on body. Ken also produced Mamod loco modification kits including a meths burner upgrade. He also produced a tender and numerous other parts aimed at Mamod steamers seeking to improve both the looks and performance of their engines.
Merlin Beck Engineering Ltd produced a wide range of 'ready to run' narrow gauge steam engines as well as supplying a multitude of items from other manufacturers. Merlin produced numerous accessories, track, etc. They also offered a gas-firing and radio control system for the Mamod SL.
Mike Chaney manufactured and supplied numerous types of steam fittings for the 16mm modeller. Mike also produced high quality Mamod modification parts that helped many owners improve the performance of their Mamod SL engines.
Salem Steam Models [SSM] were a manufacturer of live steam locomotives using oscillating cylinders. SSM produced their own brand of Mamod-mods. SSM also distributed the Mike Chaney Mamod-mods as well as numerous 16mm scale items from other manufacturers.
MGM Engineering was a small enterprise formed by Mike Goodall and Mike Moore. Mike Goodall designed an ingenious water top valve and his surname has become synonymous with these valves which are typically referred to as 'Goodall Valves'. MGM also produced Methylated Spirit Burners.
