I had been thinking about making a loco out of a different Mamod engine for a while. Numerous builds have been done by others using Mamod stationary engines. In 2014 I put this little engine together based around a Mamod Minor 1 and a Mamod Flat Car.

The MM1 is standard other than the firebox which has been cut down to less than half standard height. The burner is mounted lower in the specially designed base. The loco needs the gear sorting to get better drive on the track. I used a Meccano sprocket modified to mount on the standard Mamod rolling stock axle and a smaller brass sprocket (Stock Drive Products) on the end of the crank shaft. These are linked with standard Meccano ladder chain. The cab back is removable just like on a Mamod SL.
